LAST WEEK: Livingstone lost at Shaw, 35-14, after trailing at halftime, 28-0; Winston-Salem State lost at St. Augustine’s, 17-14, after the Falcons scored a touchdown with just 29 seconds remaining.

COACHES: Livingstone — Daryl Williams’ record is 15-31, in his fifth season. He is a graduate of Tennessee State, where he was All-OVC as a quarterback. WSSU — Kienus Boulware is 19-11, in his third season. Before becoming head coach, Boulware was an assistant for the Rams for four seasons, including during 2012, when the Rams advanced to the NCAA II championship game. Boulware is a Thomasville native and played linebacker at UNC-Chapel Hill. He has also coached at N.C. Central and Shaw.

SERIES: WSSU leads, 40-11-1, including a current 14-game winning streak over the Blue Bears. The last meeting, last October, was a 40-21 win by the Rams in Winston-Salem. Livingstone’s last win in the series came in 1998, a 38-33 decision at Bowman Gray Stadium.

WORTH MENTIONING: Livingstone hopes to snap a 10-game losing streak, going back to last season.

KEY PLAYERS: Livingstone — Sophomore running back Justin Ruffin, of Salisbury, leads the team in rushing with 346 yards and averages 50 yards per game. Ruffin also has eight catches out of the backfield for 68 yards, including a long of 22 yards.

Senior running back Jarius Richardson, who missed two games with an ankle injury, returned on Oct. 7 in a big way with 124 yards on the ground against St. Augustine’s. The leading rusher for the past two seasons, Richardson now has 294 yards this year.

Quarterback Xavier Longerbeam has missed two games with injuries but has thrown for 522 yards while completing 58 percent of his passes (59-for-101). He has two TD passes and two interceptions. Another QB, Thaddeus Bell, has passed for 512 yards on 62-of-110 throws. Bell has three scoring passes and four interceptions.

Everett Ransom leads the Livingstone’s receiving corps with 29 catches for 346 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown. Spencer Ludin has 24 grabs for 224 yards and one TD. Andrew Gamble has 18 catches for 246 yards and two scores while Jordan Cartwright has 17 for 116.

On defense, safety Jarod Richardson and lineman Armond Cox have 32 tackles each. Cox has nine tackles for losses and Richardson has 6.5. Richardson also had a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown against St. Augustine’s.

Defensive back Elems Ukwu has 28 tackles and is tied for the team lead with two interceptions. Freshman defensive back Walter Watkins also has 24 tackles and two INTs. Gregory Hines and Kevin Williams also have two interceptions.

Shaw — The Rams have solid, veteran players at running back (Kerrion Moore) and quarterback (Rod Tinsley). Moore has rushed for 819 yards already, on 121 carries. He has nine TDs and averages 112 yards per game on the ground.

Tinsley only completes 48 percent of his passes (78-of-162), but has thrown for 823 yards and six touchdowns. He also has an efficiency rating of 94.4.

Tinsley’s favorite target is receiver Canard Brown, who has 20 catches for 345 yards and two scores.

Junior linebacker Kyrell Williamson, of Kannapolis and A.L. Brown, leads the Rams in tackles with 48. He has also returned a fumble recovery 40 yards.

As a team, WSSU averages 26.3 points and 314 yards per game. The Rams have allowed 22 points per game and 301 yards each time out.

Livingstone averages 14.4 points and 272 yards per game. The Blue Bears have averaged allowing 38 points and 386 yards per game.
