Letters: $150 billion add-ons are a disgrace

$150 billion add-ons are a disgrace
When the people of this country are in danger of losing everything for which they have worked throughout their lives and the economy is in the worse shape since 1929, our elected officials used this opportunity, in hopes of getting themselves re-elected, to pad the economic rescue bill at an additional expense to taxpayers of $150 billion.
They talked about Wall Street cheating the people and how terrible it was that our money went to benefit corporate CEOs, and then they would not vote to rescue us until they had pork added into the bill. It included $250 million for Alaskan fishermen, of which Sarah Palin’s husband is one. They even gave $93 million to rum makers. I wish this newspaper would list all the add-ons, and who requested each individual piece of pork. This would give us the chance to see who exactly sold us out for their own benefit. In one of the worse situations facing the people, they used our money, yet again, to help themselves. This is one of the most disgraceful things I have ever seen.

Hopes for Catawba
Maybe Saturday’s football game between Catawba and Carson-Newman will have a power surge or a bailout to help Catawba win!

Flip-flop in family
I hope everyone that could do so watched the debate Tuesday night. Barack Obama pretty much delivered his message on why he should be president. My husband and I have been Obama supporters from the time he first suggested “Change” in his campaign.
My brother, who now lives with us due to a severe car accident, has been headstrong for John McCain. Because of our economic crisis, my brother’s health insurance problems, medical bills piling up, Social Security/disability issues and the uncertainty of our future as a whole, he has now “upgraded” to undecided! This is a huge step for him, and I believe he is really seeing how he is being affected by all this chaos. At least now, he is not shutting out Obama’s plans. ó Faith Cannon

Protect gun rights
To every citizen in Rowan and surrounding counties who will be voting for president of our great country:
I would like to warn you that a vote for Barack Obama is a vote against our freedom. He, George Soros, Charles Schumer, the Clintons, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and many more Democrats in the Senate and House are against the American people having guns for our protection.
They will be out in full force working against American citizens.
As for the Oct. 26 letter speaking against Sarah Palin, Governor Palin would be better for president than Barack Obama or his running mate.
John McCain and Sarah Palin should be the No. 1 choice for every American citizen.
They are working for our good.

No more Parker
Enough, already, of Kathleen Parker, the New York Times and the Los Angeles times! Enough!
Try the Wall Street Journal opinion page as an option ó or is that too far above your journalistic education and media bias? The person who chooses these articles (Chris Verner) needs a boot. Have Mark Wineka write them, and run them with his picture.
Surely you can do better.
