Salisbury’s girls cross country team won the CCC meet by one point over Central Davidson on Tuesday at Dan Nicholas Park.
Emily Shields (second, 20:50), Katherine Shields (third, 20:54), Jenna Bryan (seventh, 21:48) and Katelyn Horning (10th, 22:33) made the all-conference team. Margaret Kaufman (16th, 24:07) also scored for Salisbury, which had 38 points.Taylor Slate (22nd) and Carrie Thompson (23rd) rounded out the top seven. Salisbury competed without Brooke Johnson (who participated in a playoff tennis match) and team captain Laurel Loeblein.
“I am proud of how the girls ran considering three of them were under the weather,” Salisbury coach Trella McClean said. “Although we won by a close margin, the girls showed toughness and maturity to withstand a tough Central Davidson team by one point.”

n Prep soccerSalisbury’s soccer team defeated Central Davidson 3-0 in a CCC makeup game Tuesday. The Hornets (10-0-1 CCC) are close to securing a fifth straight league title.
Oscar Bonilla scored on a set play off a corner, and Connor Miller got the assist. Paul Kollie scored on Kenny Bonilla’s helper for a 2-0 halftime edge. Oscar Bonilla fed Miles Jordan for the final goal.
Keeper Frankie Cardelle triggered most of Salisbury’s defense. Backup keeper Michael Doran made the best save of his career when he stopped a direct kick with a fully prone dive to preserve the shutout.
“This was our best passing game of the season,” Salisbury coach Tom Sexton said. “Very efficient with great communication. We took advantage of Frankie and won the second touches.”
Sexton said Victor Nyae, who suffered a head injury in a collision Monday, has a Level 3 concussion. A brain scan revealed no negative news. The Hornets are also without defensive stalwarts Dustin Presnell (head) and Will Mason (hip).
The Hornets take on Ledford tonight. The only CCC loss in the careers of Salisbury’s seniors was to Ledford.
n Prep volleyball
Taylor May had 18 kills to lead South Rowan to a 25-19, 25-12, 25-11 win against West Rowan on Monday.
Kayla Morrow had 11 kills. Molly Garrett had 10 digs. Krista Haywood had 29 assists.
South (16-4, 13-4) ends the regular season today with a home game against undefeated North Iredell.
n Fifth-seeded North Rowan lost to No. 4 Providence Grove 25-11, 25-12, 25-23 in the first round of the CCC tournament. North qualified for the 2A state playoffs.
n Salisbury ended its season Monday with a 25-6, 25-7, 25-9 loss against top-seeded West Davidson in the first round of the CCC event.
n West Davidson swept Providence Grove and second-seeded Ledford beat East Davidson 3-2 in CCC semifinals on Tuesday.
West Davidson plays host to Ledford tonight at 7 p.m. in the championship match.
n SHS football parking
Reserved parking for Salisbury’s homecoming football game with Lexington on Friday night is available in the school office today through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

SAC football players of the week are Wingate special-teams player Antonio Cotton, Mars Hill linebacker Zach Johnson and Tusculum quarterback Corey Russell.
Russell passed for four touchdowns and ran for two in a 55-42 victory against Brevard. Tusuclum plays at Catawba on Saturday.
n Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards was named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Linebacker D.J. Smith won SoCon defensive honors.
Edwards accounted for 370 yards against Samford. Smith matched a career-high with 16 tackles.
n College golf
Catawba’s men’s golf team took 14th out of 18 teams at the Queens Invitational. Lander won the event.
Catawba’s leaders were Derek Paschal (16th, 77-72ó149), Evan Kilchenstein (25th, 77-74ó151), Elliott Blake (67th, 78-80ó158), Jonathan Clapp (76th, 79-81ó160) and Eric Schmehl (91st, 86-82ó168).n College volleyball
Catawba setter Megan Courson was named SAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week. Courson, a freshman, had 64 assists in two wins.
n College field hockey
Catawba’s field hockey team concluded fall break with a 5-0 loss to seventh-ranked East Stroudsburg.
Catawba (2-10) began the trip with an 11-2 loss to No. 2 Bloomsburg and a 4-1 loss to Mercyhurst.n Middle school softball
Michaela White pitched a no-hitter and struck out 14 to lead West Rowan Middle to a 16-0 softball victory against China Grove.
White had three hits and two RBIs. Catherine Whitley and Kristine South had two hits and three RBIs each for the Bulldogs (7-2).
Catcher Christine Turner led West’s defense.
n Katie Kepley struck out seven and pitched a two-hitter to lead Erwin to an 11-1 victory against Corriher-Lipe.
Josie McNeely, Steffi Sides, Jesse Rummage, Sydney Poole, Haylee Gardner and Carolina Fry sparked Erwin’s offense.
Jaysa Jordan, who turned a double play, and Mariah Morgan led the defense.
n Sacred Heart tennis
Sacred Heart’s tennis team won 7-2 against Salisbury Academy.
Anna Page, Kelly Dulkoski, Jordan Pring, Lauren Gray and Jordan DeJaco claimed singles wins for Sacred Heart (7-1). Dulkoski-Pring and Gray-DeJaco won in doubles.
Madeline Hoskins won in doubles for Salisbury Academy. Hoskins-Allie Billings won in doubles.n North Hills volleyball
North Hills competed in the Mid-State Christian volleyball tournament. The North Hills varsity finished second to host Hayworth and won the jayvee tournament.
Catherine Junker made all-tournament for the varsity games. Junker, Laura Butner and Catherine Ardoin were all-tournament in the jayvee event.n Local golf
Michael McGee made a hole-in-one Tuesday on No. 12 at Warrior Golf Club. He used a 6-iron on the 177-yard hole. Gary Bush witnessed the shot, and it was McGee’s first ace.
n Seventy-two GARS members played at Warrior on Monday.
Low ‘A’ Flight winner was Les Loman with a net of 63.52.
Low ‘B’ player with a net of 63.64 was Tony LaBarbera.
Low ‘C’ golfer was Fred Medlin with a net of 62.93.
Low ‘D’ player was Larry Luther with a net of 61.36.
n In the Corbin Hills Ladies Golf Association’s weekly event, Phyllis Durland was first low gross, followed by Becky Isenhour. Faye Cline was first low net, followed by Gail Capone.n Volleyball club
There will be an informational meeting for the upcoming Junior Olympic Volleyball season with the Rowan Volleyball Club on Saturday at Carson High at 9:30 a.m. for third-12th graders.
