GRANITE QUARRY — Former Mayor Mary Ponds, for whom a write-in campaign was waged heading into Tuesday’s election, received 166 of the 170 write-in votes cast for mayor, according to the Rowan County Board of Elections.
Incumbent Mayor Bill Feather — who was unopposed on the official ballot — won re-election by a 186-170 margin.
The Board of Elections updated its results Wednesday morning to show that Ponds received the vast majority of write-in votes.
A few absentee and provisional ballots remain to be counted. Results will be certified Nov. 17.
Kim Cress and John Linker won seats on the Board of Aldermen, unseating incumbents Mike Brinkley and Arin Wilhelm.
