Rowan roundup: Carolina Farm Credit official completes training

James L. Taylor Jr., vice president of Carolina Farm Credit ACA, has completed the 36th Annual Basic Economic Development Course held recently on the campus of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Taylor is a board member of the Salisbury-Rowan Economic Development Commission, serving as secretary last year and as treasurer this year.
The weeklong course focused on topics including research and analysis in economic development; business attraction; marketing the community; the site selection process; business retention and expansion; financing economic development projects; real estate development and reuse; community development; entrepreneurship and business creation; workforce development; and managing economic development organizations.
Taylor has been with Carolina Farm Credit more than 27 years, the first 26 involved with the financing of agricultural production and facilities and rural home loans. In 2007, he was promoted to start a new department, Mission Related Investments, which concentrates on the development of the rural community. It focuses on creating and maintaining jobs in the rural community as well as community development. His territory covers the 54 most western counties of the state.
Taylor and wife Kim have two children, Adam and Brooke, and live in Woodleaf.
Wound care director
ALBEMARLE ó Sheila Brown is the program director of Stanly Regional Medical Center’s Wound Care Clinic.
A native and resident of western Stanly County, Brown is a certified wound, ostomy and continence nurse who was previously clinical manager/coordinator for CMC-Union’s outpatient Wound Care Center.
She has also worked in clinical settings, including critical and intensive care units, and been an instructor for Stanly Community College’s nursing program.
She earned nursing degrees from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Presbyterian Hospital and is working on a master’s degree. She completed wound certification training at Emory University in Atlanta.

Holt attends focus08
Jason Holt of F&M Investment Services in Salisbury recently attended focus08, an industry conference hosted by LPL Financial.

Held in Chicago, focus08 is one of the industry’s largest gatherings of independent financial advisors. Nearly 7,000 from around the country assembled for the opportunity to learn new strategies and skills, expand knowledge in product areas and network with peers and industry experts.
They also heard speakers address current industry trends and provide ideas on improving advisors’ service.
At the conference, Holt was recognized for providing exceptional client service as a member of LPL Financial’s Chairman’s Club, comprising the top 6 percent of LPL Financial’s more than 11,000 investment professionals.
