Were on the move — the Salisbury Lion’s Club is moving its meeting place to the Harold B. Jarrett Legion Post at 1024 Lincolnton Road. Meetings are held at noon every Wednesday. Lunch is served along with interesting programs and club updates. Come share our dedication to the blind and hearing disabled of Salisbury by visiting one of our meetings.

Turner book signing

Rev. Patricia Turner, co-pastor emeritus of the Tower of Power UHC, released her first book on Nov. 6, 2017. Rev. Turner self-published a manual that will assist ministers and lay church speakers in basic sermon preparation.

The manual is titled “Developing/Preaching Sermons to Reflect the Spirit of Pentecost: A Training Manual for Ministers in Basic Sermon Preparation.” Rev. Turner was motivated to publish in an attempt to give basic sermon instruction for ministers who are unable to access seminary or Bible college training. She also plans to work with ministers who have been to seminary, but would like to improve on their development an delivery.

Rev. Turner, retired educator, holds a BS degree in business education from A&T State University, Greensboro, an MS in business education and an MA in special education from NCCU, Durham and a master of divinity from Hood Theological Seminary. She did further study at Pembroke State University.

Cannon Memorial Lodge Masons

Those Masons at Cannon Memorial Lodge were at it again. As part of their revitalized commitment to community involvement, they, along with four other Cabarrus County Masonic Lodges, for the first time ever took part in the annual Concord Christmas Parade.

Organized by Harold Cline of Cabarrus Lodge, the group walked the three-mile route clothed in Masonically-traditioned white gloves and leather aprons as they handed out candy to the children and waved to the onlookers.

Though some in the crowd mentioned that they were ‘that Secret Organization,’ others were heard saying how much Freemasons do to help make their surroundings better. But these words of praise came as no shock to Thomas VanEtten, secretary of Cannon Memorial Lodge, “helping people, and our community, is just what Freemasonry is all about; it’s something we enjoy doing.” When asked about next year’s involvement, the Masons said they were very impressed, and can’t wait to be a part of this again.

S.N.A.G. invites the community

The S.N.A.G (Salisbury Neighborhood Action Group) meeting is the first Wednesday of each month at the Salisbury Police Department, 130 E. Liberty St., at 10 a.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
