COLUMBUS, Ohio ó Pat Devlin came off the bench for injured starting quarterback Daryll Clark in the fourth quarter, leading two scoring drives and sneaking in for the go-ahead touchdown to give No. 3 Penn State a 13-6 victory over No. 10 Ohio State on Saturday night.
The win put the Nittany Lions (9-0, 5-0) in command in the Big Ten and severely crimped the chances of the Buckeyes (7-2, 4-1) grabbing an unprecedented third consecutive outright league title and a piece of their fourth conference championship in a row.
Penn State, with coach Joe Paterno coaching from the press box for the fourth straight game, solidified its position as a national championship contender and also erased the ugly memories of an 0-7 mark in Columbus since joining the Big Ten in 1993.
Defenses controlled most of the game before an Ohio Stadium-record crowd of 105,711.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ó John Parker Wilson passed for 188 yards and ran for a touchdown as No. 2 Alabama cruised to a 29-9 win over Tennessee.
The win gives the Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0 SEC) its first back-to-back wins over the Volunteers (3-5, 1-4) in a usually streaky “Third Saturday in October” series since the 1991-92 seasons.
While the Tide remained in the heart of the national championship race, Tennessee’s season grew sorrier. Harrell, the nation’s leader in yards passing, also scored on a 1-yard run for the Red Raiders (8-0, 4-0 Big 12), who have matched their best start in 32 years.
Kansas (5-3, 2-2) matched Harrell touchdown-for-touchdown through a first quarter that ended 14-14. But the Red Raiders ripped off 49 unanswered points for their 10th victory in 11 games against the Jayhawks.
Louisville 24, No. 14 South Florida 20LOUISVILLE, Ky. ó Hunter Cantwell threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Scott Long with 7:07 left to play to help Louisville upset penalty-plagued South Florida.
The 14th-ranked Bulls committed 14 penalties for 109 yards, including a defensive holding on a missed field goal by Louisville that would have given USF (6-2, 1-2 Big East) the ball back late in the fourth quarter.

Austin Collie had his sixth straight 100-yard receiving game for the Cougars (7-1, 3-1 Mountain West), who were matched nearly score-for-score by the Rebels until the final drive. BYU’s Andrew Rich intercepted Omar Clayton’s pass in the end zone on the final play to seal BYU’s 17th straight win at home.

Nate Davis caught the first touchdown pass of his career and threw two more as the Cardinals (8-0, 4-0 Mid-American) continued their best start in 43 years.
No. 25 Minnesota 17, Purdue 6WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ó Adam Weber passed for a touchdown and ran for another against Purdue, which lost star quarterback Curtis Painter to injury in the first half.
Weber passed for 212 yards and ran for 60, and Brandon Green caught five passes for 100 yards for the Golden Gophers (7-1, 3-1 Big Ten).
