Cabarrus College of Health Sciences

Cabarrus College of Health Sciences recently held its annual scholarship dinner at Great Wolf Lodge Conference Center in Concord. The crowd, made up of college administrators, staff members, students, and members of the community, came together to honor scholarship donors and recipients. This year’s dinner was sponsored by Uwharrie Bank.

The keynote address was delivered by Michael Ruhlen, vice president of the division of medial education for Carolinas HealthCare System. The crowd also heard from student and scholarship recipient Jayme Hilton, who spoke about the importance of student scholarships and how receiving a scholarship has contributed in her success as an associate degree nursing student.

Catawba administrator tapped to serve on Sonic Foundry board of directors

Nelson Murphy, Catawba College’s executive vice president for finance and operations, has been appointed to the board of directors of Sonic Foundry. His appointment was announced Nov. 17 by the Madison, Wisconsin-based company, which is a global leader for video creation and management solutions.

Murphy has been executive vice president of finance and operations for Catawba College since 2015. Previously he held senior corporate positions including vice president of finance, electronic systems sector at Northrop Grumman Corp., and senior finance roles for AT&T in the U.S., Europe and Latin America.

Murphy earned his bachelor of science degree in accounting from Wake Forest University. He and his wife, Carol, are residents of Salisbury and are parents of two adult sons, Connor and Charlie.
