Letter: New collection plan will fail

Who came up with the “brilliant” ideas for new Salisbury trash collection?

This new plan will be a disaster. With this plan, the city is encouraging people to dump their trash on another person’s property. I can assure you that folks who move out of their apartments and houses in the middle of the night, will not be calling and scheduling a pick up or prepaying.

When someone rides by your house and unloads their bag of trash beside your green garbage can in the middle of the night, why should you have to pay? When a neighbor decides to clean their yard or cut a few tree limbs and piles the debris or as the city now call it “bulk trash,” on the sidewalk between the two houses, there will be blood flowing in the streets over who did what and who should pay.

This plan will accomplish one thing and one thing only. It will financially punish homeowners who try to do things the right way.

There was a time when living in the city and paying city taxes was a reasonable thing to do. Trash pick up was free because you paid for it through your taxes. City water was safe and reasonably priced.

Now, we are charged for basic trash removal and water run-off even when our lawns are absorbing the water. How ridiculous is that? Just where is our city tax money going? It certainly is not being used to maintain and repair the streets!

The only reasonable explanation is that once again the city is looking for a way to keep up with the financial burden of Fibrant which was another stupid mistake.

If you think our city streets look bad now, just wait until the new fees go into effect.
