SALISBURY — Girls on the Run of Greater Piedmont will host its annual 5K run, sponsored by Novant Health, at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Salisbury Community Park on Hurley School Road.
Girls on the Run is a physical, activity-based youth development program that uses fun running games and discussions to teach life skills to girls in third to eighth grades.
During the 10-week program, girls participate in lessons designed to foster confidence, build peer connections and encourage community service while they prepare for the end-of-season 5k run.
Participation in Saturday’s 5K is open to the public, and all proceeds will benefit Girls on the Run of the Greater Piedmont. The open course will start and finish at Salisbury Community Park. The run is untimed and noncompetitive, and no awards are given.
Last season’s 5K, held at Catawba College, brought together more than 800 participants including the girls in the program, their family and friends, and community members.
Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for youths and includes a shirt (with limited sizes and quantities available). Packet pickup will be at Salisbury Community Park.
Volunteers are still needed. Register to be a course marshal (ages 18 and up), “happy hair” volunteer and more at https://www.raceplanner.com/registrationinfo/event/5KVolunteerF17.
