Good things used to happen when a North Rowan quarterback named Mitch Ellis got a chance to lead the Catawba offense.
Indians coach Chip Hester hopes there is a little deja-vu on Saturday when the Indians play host to Brevard.
Expect to see Daniel Griffith to get the most playing time of his redshirt freshman season.
That’s Daniel Griffith, as in North Rowan grad.
Griffith threw his first touchdown pass last week in a 34-24 loss to Wingate. Hester sees bigger and better things for his young quarterback.
Patrick Dennis will probably start, but expect Griffith to see quality time.
“We have a lot of confidence in Patrick Dennis,” Hester said. “But we’ll see what Daniel has to offer. It’s important to take a look and see what he can do.”
If anything, Griffith has earned some time because of sheer patience.
“It’s tough to stand on the sidelines after you’ve been a star (in high school),” Hester said. “You can tell he’s a competitor. He wants to be on the field. I’ve been impressed with his attitude. He has been very supportive of the other quarterbacks.”
Hester feels Griffith can produce after completing 7 of 11 passes for 82 yards against the Bulldogs.
“He’s talented,” the coach said. “He can make big-time throws.”
