SALISBURY — A fire that destroyed a house in the Spencer Forest neighborhood remains under investigation.

Fire investigators said Wednesday that no one was home at the time of the fire.

The fire was reported at 180 Evergreen Drive, just off East Ridge Road, after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The homeowners both live in assisted living facilities. Their grandson was at the home a couple of days before the fire to check on the house, Fire Investigator Mark Troublefield said.

He said investigators returned to the home Wednesday morning to further assess the damage.

Agencies that responded to the fire include the Ellis Cross Country, Franklin, Miller’s Ferry, Spencer and Salisbury fire departments; Rowan County Fire Services Division; Rowan County Rescue Squad; and Rowan County EMS.

Troublefield said a neighbor called to report the fire.
