Retired Redskins player to speak at The Arbor
The Arbor United Methodist Church, 5545 Woodleaf Road, will have a special speaker, Renaldo Wynn, at its 10:30 a.m. worship on Sunday. Wynn is a former NFL player who retired from the Redskins in 2009 and now has a part in the Game Plan for Life Ministry, which has a special emphasis on reaching young people. He resides in Charlotte with his family. Rev. Craig Sefa is host pastor.
Mount Zion UCC hosts the Sloans
CHINA GROVE — Missionaries to Honduras, Ed and the Rev. Linda Sloan, will be at Mt. Zion UCC, 1415 S. Main St., on Sunday. During the 9:30 a.m. Sunday school hour, Ed will be leading the combined adult classes and sharing about their missionary work. During the 10:30 a.m. worship, the Rev. Fairview Heights pastoral anniversary services
Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 704 Old Concord Road, is hosting its 17th annual pastoral anniversary for Pastor Clarence E. Marlin and Evangelist Cathye Marlin and family, continuing Sunday, Jan. 14. After the 11 a.m. service, dinner will follow in the fellowship hall. The 3 p.m. service will conclude the celebration with Rev. David Bracken, pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Shepherd’s Care service at Outreach
Outreach Christian Ministries Intl. will be having a Shepherd’s Care service on Sunday with Pastor Nettye Barber from New Jerusalem Apostolic Church in Mocksville as the speaker. The service will start at 4 p.m. at 722 W. Horah St.
Gloria Dei Lutheran
Bible study time at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1908 Statesville Boulevard, has been changed to Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Pastor John Tucker will lead the session on the book of Psalms. There is no Wednesday evening study until further notice.
MLK Jr. Events
UMA of Salisbury-Rowan
Honoring the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 East Cemetery St.
The guest preacher will be Rev. Patricia C. Turner, Pastor Emeriti at Tower of Power United Holy Church.
Rev. Turner holds a Bachelor of Arts from A&T State University; a Master’s in business education and a Master’s in special education from NC Central, Durham. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with the Master of Divinity degree from Hood Theological Seminary.
She retired in 2002 after a teaching career of 35 years.
Rev. Turner was ordained an elder in 2000 in the Western NC District Convocation of the United Holy Church of America Inc.
Rock Hill AME Zion
CONCORD — The Christian Education Dept of Rock Hill AME Zion Church, 3620 Rock Hill Church Road, will host its sixth annual MLK Jr. Prayer Breakfast on Monday beginning at 9 a.m. The theme is “Hope Coming to the Forefront.”

Community Bike Ride
EAST SPENCER — There will be a Community Bike Ride on Monday in East Spencer for children of all ages, to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The ride starts at the Dunbar Center and progresses to the Fire Annex. There will be a guest presentation and light refreshments.
The event is Jan. 15 from noon-2 p.m. featuring both the children and adult House of Prayer Band.
