KANNAPOLIS — Kannapolis Kares Day, an annual day of community service organized by Cooperative Christian Ministry and sponsored by the city, will be held April 5.
Kannapolis Kares Day connects residents and businesses with volunteer opportunities and provides the resources needed to get involved.
The day of service will officially kick off with a breakfast for volunteers at Cannon Memorial YMCA.
Cooperative Christian Ministry has decided to feature a few signature projects individuals and organizations can register to join. These volunteer opportunities address various needs in the community, many supporting ongoing city initiatives. However, participation is not limited to these projects.
All individuals and groups who choose to participate in Kannapolis Kares Day, whether joining an existing project or volunteering on their own, are asked to register.

Featured Group Volunteer Opportunities:
• Storm drain marker installation — Help keep the city’s water clean and increase awareness of the effects of storm drain dumping. Volunteers will attach brightly colored markers with the words, “No dumping, drains to waterway,” on storm drains. This will help the city’s ongoing conservation efforts.
• Street/stream clean-up — Help bring pride to Kannapolis by joining this effort to clean up areas in need. Volunteers will help create a healthier, more attractive community. All necessary equipment will be provided.
• Habitat for Humanity house — Help end poverty housing and homelessness in Kannapolis. Join professional builders, and help build a home for a local family in need. Volunteers for this project must be 16 or older. Space is limited, so interested parties need to register as soon as possible.
• Cards for military personnel — Show appreciation for the men and women serving far from home. Volunteers for this project will meet on April 5 to make cards that will be sent to military personnel stationed overseas.
Additional events happening on Kannapolis Kares Day:
• Zucchini 500 — Part of the N.C. Science Festival, Hilbish Ford is giving kids of all ages the chance to “put the produce to the metal” on April 5 by building and racing cars made out of zucchinis. • Drive 4 UR School — In conjunction with the Zucchini 500, Hilbish Ford is offering parents a chance to have fun and give back with a Drive 4 UR School event on April 5. Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to A.L. Brown High School for every test drive taken that day.
• Feeding Frenzy 5K — CMC-NorthEast Stadium is hosting a 5K to benefit the Child Survival Program. Participants are also encouraged to bring new, unwrapped stuffed animals to donate to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital Child Advocacy Center. For more information, visit www.feedingfrenzy5k.com .
• Walk MS — Join the N.C. Research Campus in a Walk MS event to support people living with Multiple Sclerosis in the community. Participants can choose between one and three-mile routes. For more information, email Jon.Bradley@nmss.org .
