SALISBURY — A 63-year-old woman is expected to be OK after being shot in the leg Wednesday morning.

Captain John Sifford said that, “based on the information from those involved, and evidence collected,” it appears that the shooting was an accident.

Sifford said that information about the shooting is limited at the moment.

He said that deputies responded to the call at around 10:40 a.m. When they arrived, they found the victim conscious and alert with a gunshot wound in her leg.

Sifford said that the wound was in a “peripheral” location, meaning that there was some bleeding but that it was not serious.

According to Sifford, the caller had gotten his gun because he saw a coyote outside. The caller’s gun then went off accidentally and the round hit the victim in the leg.

Sifford said that EMS also responded to the scene.
