The 35th running of the Winter Flight 8K is set for Sunday afternoon at Catawba College. The race is the oldest 8K in the state and the fourth oldest overall. Runners from throughout the southeast will attend to gather points as the 8K is part of the Running Journal Grand Prix which consists of top quality races from Alabama, Florida and Virginia.
A half-mile fun run around the stadium track will kick off the event at 1:30 p.m. with the 8K and a 5K Health Walk beginning at 2 p.m. All 8K and 5K participants will get a high-quality commemorative long-sleeve shirt designed by Whimziggy. All finishers in the fun run and 5K Health Walk will get medals while the 8K runners will compete for awards that include overall, masters, grand masters and senior grand masters. Refreshments will follow each event.
