A public hearing will be held Monday to discuss the sale of property off of Summit Park Drive.

Around 8.217 acres are being considered in the sale, which will be used to develop a 100,000-square-foot business expansion for a to-be-named Rowan County employer.

The hearing will be held at 3 p.m. during the Rowan County Board of Commissioners meeting at the Rowan County Administration Building.

Proposed business expansion comes as part of “Project Wheel,” a collaboration between the Rowan Economic Development Commission and the county to entice an established business to expand locally.

The expansion could bring $11 million in business investment and 94 new jobs to the area.

To prepare for the development, The Keith Corporation is seeking to purchase the Summit Park Drive property from the county for $20,000 per acre.

In other business from Monday’s agenda:

• The board will hold a public hearing to consider text amendments to the county code of ordinances.

These animal-related text amendments come in response to recent changes in state law concerning protocol for domestic animals potentially exposed to rabies. Staff also added new language to address animal welfare concerns.

• The board will consider a partnership with the city of Salisbury and the Tourism Development Authority in support of a WWI and WWII Memorial.

The Rowan County Tourism Development Authority has allocated $10,000 toward the construction of a World I and World War II Memorial at the Patriots Flags Concourse at the corner of West Miller and North Jackson streets in Salisbury. Rowan County is being asked to contribute $10,000 as well, with the city of Salisbury managing construction and memorial maintenance.

• The board could approve a new roadside litter program.

The proposed program would bring in one full-time, benefited ‘Litter Mitigation Supervisor’ to oversee community service workers as they clean up roadsides.

• The board could appoint four individuals to three local boards.

Boards include the Centralina Economic Development Committee, the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and the Nursing Home Advisory Committee.

Currently there are 36 vacancies on 15 local boards.
