From staff reportsReid Augst scored 20 points and UNC Asheville defeated previously unbeaten Catawba 84-67 in men’s basketball.
The Bulldogs held Catawba (8-1) to 32.5 percent shooting from the field on Saturday.
Jason Ridenhour scored 17 points for the Bulldogs (4-5). Eric Stubbs had 12 points and eight rebounds. J.P. Primm notched 11 points.
Donzell Williams equaled a career-high with 14 points for the Indians. Rob Fields had 12 points, and Dominick Reid added 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Catawba’s leading scorer Antonio Houston was held to four points on 1-for-13 shooting. Reid and Houston both missed their first seven field-goal attempts.
Catawba was 5-for-25 from 3-point range in the first meeting of the schools since the Indians won 74-55 in the 1983 District 26 Championship game.
UNC Asheville jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the opening minutes. Catawba trailed by as many as 12 in the first half and was behind 31-24 at halftime.

n Livingstone women fall
Jasmine Gunn recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 assists to lead 11th-ranked Tusculum to a 92-60 win over Livingstone’s women’s basketball team on Saturday in Greeneville, Tenn.
Livingstone (2-5) was led by Cassaundra Rhodes with 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the floor. Brittany Wright added 10 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots.
The Pioneers (8-1) recorded their fifth straight win and 15th straight victory at home. They shot 64 percent from the floor.
Stephany Neptune posted 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots for the Pioneers.

Santonio Springs had a huge game with 24 points and 13 rebounds as Livingstone’s men’s basketball team beat West Virginia Wesleyan 79-75 in Buckhannon, W. Va., on Saturday.
Spencer Davis added 17 points for the Blue Bears. Sean Booker had 12 points.
Livingstone (5-3) was 20-for-24 from the foul line.
Jerel Thomas led West Virginia Wesleyan with 21 points.

Pfeiffer’s men’s basketball team beat Lees-McRae 98-80 for a Conference Carolinas victory on Saturday in Banner Elk.
Chris Woods led the Falcons with 22 points.
Robert McGriff (15), Trumaine Johnson (13) and James Crowder (12) also scored in double figures for the sizzling Falcons.
Pfeiffer led by as many as 25 points in the first half and was in control 60-39 at halftime.
Pfeiffer (3-1, 2-0) shot 66 percent from the field in the first half and made five 3-pointers.
Lees-McRae rallied within 11 points in the second half, but the Falcons were never in serious trouble.
Nick DeSchepper led the Bobcats with 18 points. Aaron Woodacre had 17.

Pfeiffer lost 87-80 to Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball on Saturday in Banner Elk.

Ashley Holland led the Bobcats with 20 points, Courtney Furr had 19.
Reneé Roberson (West Rowan) had six rebounds for the Bobcats. Brittany Roberson (West) scored five points.

Junior Hairston (West Rowan) scored 17 points to lead Towson’s men’s basketball team to a 71-57 victory at High Point on Saturday.n East jayvee girls
East Rowan’s jayvee girls basketball team beat North Iredell 50-34 on Friday.
Bridget Boling and Ashley Goins scored 15 points each for the Mustangs and combined for seven steals.
Summer Taylor scored eight points for East.

Abilene Christian running back Bernard Scott is the winner of this year’s Harlon Hill Trophy, which recognizes the NCAA Division II Football Player of the Year.
Tusculum quarterback Corey Russell finished sixth in the voting.
Scott won in a landslide with 253 total points, including 66 first-place votes.
North Alabama quarterback A.J. Milwee and quarterback Mike Reilly of Central Washington tied for second with 85 points each.
