SALISBURY — Sweet Meadow Cafe owner Heather Teeter had thought of hosting cooking classes before.

But that idea didn’t become a reality until she teamed up with Kitchen Store owner Dennis Lunsford.

“Dennis and I kind of talked it out and we found a way to make it work,” Teeter said.

Teeter said she wasn’t sure how she would attract people to the class; Lunsford said he didn’t have the space to hold the class himself.

“I was just trying to find a good partner to work with because I don’t have room here,” Lunsford said. “And we pretty much had the same customers. Somebody that enjoys really good quality food will eat over there or shop over here.”

Teeter said the class will be more of a demonstration than a hands-on experience.

“But you’re going to go home with some papers, some do-it-yourself stuff kind of to get you through the same recipe. So you get to see it happen and then you get to eat it,” Teeter said.

The class will be teaching participants to make coq au vin — a French dish that translates to “chicken with wine.”

“So we’re going to see how this one goes and get some feedback, maybe, from the people that participate and see what other people might be interested in and try to create a series that can accommodate lots of different folks,” Teeter said. “It sounds like fun.”

Teeter said the series could go “a million different ways.”

“We can be very professional, very relaxed to make it more fun-oriented, a drinking class, like we’re doing in March. We’re just really looking forward to seeing what people are interested in,” Teeter said.

Teeter said the first class — which will take place March 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Sweet Meadow Cafe — is geared toward participants who are 21 and older because it will include wine.

She said future classes could be geared toward different age groups and could involve more hands-on participation.

“It comes down to cooking surfaces. But, since (Dennis has) a kitchen store, he can find equipment and we can cross-market that as well,” Teeter said.

The class will cost $50 per person and will be limited to 10 people. Refunds will not be given for canceled reservations.
