North Rowan High School goes on lockdown after threat

SPENCER — North Rowan High School was on lockdown Friday after a reported threat, authorities said, though they provided no details on the nature of the threat.
Principal Alexis Cowan sent a ConnectEd message to parents that said the school was on a Code Orange lockdown.
“A Code Orange will keep our students and campus safe and secure until the threat is cleared by law enforcement,” the message read.
According to school officials, Code Orange means:
• Inside-outside doors are locked
• Students are restricted to classrooms
• Visitors are not allowed on campus
• Classes continue.
“The safety of our students is our top priority. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement and take all necessary measures in assuring that our school remains safe,” school officials said.
Officers from the Spencer Police Department and Rowan County Sheriff’s Office were seen outside the school.
