Ann Farabee: Feel alone?

Feel alone? Grieving? Unhappy home? Feel you don’t fit in? Health concerns? Overwhelmed? These are just a few of many times in our lives where we can feel very alone. Sometimes, we may even feel alone when surrounded by those we love. God can seem to be billions of miles away.

But – God’s Word makes it clear that we are never alone:

We are under His wings, so He is always above us. Psalm 91:4

His everlasting arms are always underneath us. Deuteronomy 33:27

He is in our midst. He rejoices over us. He sings over us. Zephaniah 3:17

He is our keeper. He is the shade on our right hand. Psalm 121:5

He is always holding us up with His right hand. Isaiah 41:10

He keeps our feet. 1 Samuel 2:9

His Spirit dwells inside us. 1 Corinthians 3:16

He guards our heart. Philippians 4:7

He is near to our broken heart. Psalm 34:18

He is with us everywhere we go. Joshua 1:9

His angels are camping out around us. Psalm 34:7

He has goodness and mercy following us. Psalm 23:6

He is with us when we sit down, stand up, lie down, and wake up. He is with us when we go out and when we come in. He surrounds our path. We can’t flee from His presence. He thinks of us more often than there are grains of sand. Psalm 139

Sounds like to me that we are covered from head to toe, and then some, aren’t we?

We. Are. Not. Alone.

This column could not even begin to hold all the verses that let us know just how close God is to us – His children.

I like to get the chance to go for a walk outside and pray. One day while walking, I remember crying up toward the heavens to the Lord about a burden that I felt no one on Earth could help me carry. In that moment, God reminded me that He wasn’t far away. He was right there. Right then. Living in me.

I didn’t have to reach billions of miles away to get God to hear me. He was living in me.

Makes no earthly sense, does it? Psalm 139:6 says that such knowledge is too wonderful for me…

How could God do all that? For all of us? We could never understand it. (Hey, I don’t understand electricity, either, but I sure do want to be a recipient of it.)

Still feel alone? James 4:8 says if we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us.

Take a couple of minutes and read this again. Prayerfully picture God doing exactly what these verses say He is doing for you – and picture Him being exactly where He says He is for you. These are some promises – straight from God to you.

And to me. And to all of us.
