CONCORD — Carson’s baseball team won its fourth game in a row on Friday, rolling 9-1 at Central Cabarrus behind pitcher Owen White.

Owen White pitched six shutout innings. He threw 60 of his 79 pitches for strikes. He struck out 14, walked none and allowed one hit.

Cameron Prugh had three hits for the Cougars (5-3). White and Garrett Alewine had two hits each. Luke Barringer had a triple and two RBIs.

MOUNT ULLA —Cole Myers went 4-for-4 with two RBIs but West Rowan dropped its third in a row on Friday.

The Falcons (2-4)  lost to Robinson, 8-5.

Robinson scored four in the first against West starter Daniel Durham and never trailed.

Olen Stamper hit a solo homer for West.

Jason White homered and drove in three runs for the Bulldogs.

GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan had a four-game winning streak snapped on Friday.

Cox Mill beat the Mustangs, 8-5, in eight innings. Cox Mill (4-2) is coached by former East assistant John McNeil.

East (4-2) got solo homers from Hayden Setzer and Jake Hunter but couldn’t put together a big inning. Corbin Moss drew a bases-loaded walk.

East tied the game 4-all in the fourth and it stayed that way until Cox Mill got four in the top of the eighth.

Setzer started on the mound for East. Will Brown  pitched four innings. Moss  took the loss after hitting the leadoff man in the eighth.

In other baseball action, South Rowan lost at Oak Grove, 4-3, in a Central Carolina Conference game on Friday.

North Rowan lost at Uwharrie Charter, 10-0, in YVC action on Thursday.

A.L. Brown plays North Iredell  in a jayvee/varsity doubleheader today at Intimidators Stadium at 2 p.m.

Prep soccer

LANDIS — South Rowan lost to undefeated West Davidson, 4-1, on Friday.

Madison Henry scored for the Raiders on an assist by Rhiannon Kimmer.

It was the first Central Carolina Conference loss to South (6-2, 5-1 CCC).

Prep softball

CHINA GROVE — Carson scored six runs in the bottom of the first and went on to beat A.L. Brown, 6-2, on Friday.

The Cougars (3-1) got good pitching from Rylie Stewart, who worked five shutout innings. Katie Jewell finished off the win.

Haley Howerton had a three-run triple for the Cougars. Also driving in runs were Jewell,  Kary Hales and  Jess Freeze, who had a double.

A.L. Brown  (2-4) got nine hits, with Lauren Ritchie, Madison Hamke and Kayleigh Skinner getting two each.

WALLBURG — Salisbury lost at Ledford, 16-1, in a CCC game on Friday.

Ellen Yang’s third homer of the season was the highlight for the Hornets.

Journie Dawson and Kayla Caldwell also had hits for the Hornets.

CONCORD — West Rowan was beaten in five innings by Central Cabarrus, 11-1, on Friday.

Mary Sobataka doubled and had the only RBI for West (5-2).

Riley Tucker drove in four runs and pitched well for Central. Maranda Benton went 4-for-4.

LANDIS — Morgan Brown pitched South Rowan to an easy 17-1 CCC win against Thomasville on Friday.

South (5-3,4-2) scored  nine runs in the first and eight runs in the third.

Jalee Rollins hit a home run and drove in four runs.  Brooke Lowery and Anna Blume drove in two runs apiece. Whitley Arnott had a triple.

Prep track

East Rowan’s boys won a five-team track meet on Thursday at East that also included Carson, Robinson, West Stanly and Central Cabarrus.

Sam Wall won the triple jump and the 200. Sean Incardona took the 1600 and 3200. Chase Whitley won the 400. Christian Bennett won the shot.

East’s boys won the 4×400 and 4×800.

Carson’s second-place boys got wins from Jadon Vernon in the discus, Preston Venable in the pole vault, Hunter Courtney in the long jump and Jacob Higgins in the 800.

William Fuller won the wheelchair 100.

Robinson won the girls meet.

East Rowan’s second-place girls got wins from Iyahnna Neal in the discus, Victoria Trexler in the pole vault and Katelyn Sprinkle in the 100 hurdles.

Carson’s fourth-place girls won the 4×200.  Megan Deal won the 3200. McKenzie Gadson won the 100 and the long jump.

Mid. school soccer

Erwin’s girls are 3-0. Hannah Isley has five goals and four assists.   Mckenzie Misenheimer has four goals.  Lindsey Cook has scored three goals, Alix Vazquez has two goals and two assists, Leah Hinceman has two goals and oneassist. Riley Isley has a goal and an assist.   Mary Spry had made 10 saves.

Erwin boy’s are 1-2 after rallying for a 4-3 win against North Rowan.

Andrew Martin leads the Eagles with three goals.  Gabe Honeycutt has a goal and three assists.   Alex Luna and Johnny Salazar have a goal each.  Elijah Luna, Kevin Mastranunzio  and Carter Honeycutt have assists.  Gavin Gullett and Ethan Lutz have combined for 20 saves.

NFL

Defensive end Chris Smith (West Rowan) has signed a three-year contract with the Cleveland Browns.

Mid. school baseball

Casey  Gouge scattered five hits over five innings as West Rowan defeated Southeast 13-1 on Thursday.

Bulldogs (1-0) were led at the plate by Jake Blevins with three hits and five RBIs. West will play Knox at home on Tuesday, at Erwin Wednesday  and at China Grove on Thursday.

Catawba lacrosse

HARTSVILLE, S.C.  –  Liam Lynch, Joe Barber and Cole Fanzo scored three goals each as Catawba rallied to beat Coker, 14-8.

SALISBURY —  Nicole  Hunt scored five goals for Catawba in a 25-7 loss to Indiana (Pa.).

  

College softball

SALISBURY  —  Catawba fell to visiting North Georgia in a softball doubleheader at Whitley Field on Thursday afternoon. The Nighthawks, ranked second in Division II, took the opener, 7-0, and won the second game, 7-3.

Carlee Brawley had two hits for Catawba  (12-13) in the opener.

In the second game,  Leah Huggins singled home a run and homered.

Beth Ann Martin (South Rowan) singled home a run in the sixth. Huggins and Monica Taylor had two hits.

Catawba travels to Lincoln Memorial Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

  

College tennis

The Wingate women won, 9-0, against Catawba on Thursday.  Wingate’s women have won 61 straight SAC matches.

Catawba’s men managed a doubles win in an 8-1 loss to Wingate.
