The Red Cross does outstanding work for people all across this country and throughout the world, no doubt. In Rowan County we are blessed to have a very active chapter.

That being said, I believe it is very important for all Rowan County residents to know that all of the funding for home burnouts and other disasters in the county handled by the Red Cross comes from Rowan County citizens and businesses via their support of the Rowan County United Way.

It is us right here in Rowan County, neighbors caring for neighbors, the United Way.

In addition to disaster funding, our financial contributions to Rowan County United Way support 15 member and two partner agencies with many other health and human services to help our neighbors in the areas of youth, families, older adults, disabled and mentally challenged citizens, lifesaving emergencies, health and substance abuse, and access to jobs.

So, let us all count our blessings and give thanks for the Red Cross and especially for our homegrown and home-supported Rowan County United Way.

And yes, by all means, support the Red Cross. And please, please. when you are asked later this year, be generous in your support of our local Rowan County United Way.
