Marsh column: Ester’s ‘normal’ day

Q. How do you find time to write your articles?
A. I was going to wait until later to answer this question but after a day like today, this will be interesting to answer!
Honestly, sometimes I don’t know how I am doing it! As an undiagnosed ADHD child I do tend to have a lot more energy as an adult than non-ADHD people and I am thankful for that.
Let me tell you what a normal day is like in the Marsh household:
– Get up at 5 a.m. make sandwich and send husband off to work ó lie back down in bed until 5:30 (don’t really sleep, just love to lie there for a while). Get up and ready to go.
– 6 a.m. ó Wake up kids.
– 6:03 ó Go outside to take dogs for walk and feed the goats and horses. After that, time to feed the dogs. LOVE this part of the day…yes, even when the weather is cold, wet, etc.
It gets me going and I love my animals.
– 6:30 a.m. ó I better be done with feeding and walk back to the house, feed dogs and make my coffee and sandwich to go.
Make sure my third-grade son Andrew’s school bag and lunch box is packed.
– 6:45 a.m. ó On my way to the car, drive up the driveway and wait for the school bus which comes between 6:51 and 6:59 a.m. (our bus driver is awesome!)
On my way to the YMCA teach about one class a day (Esterciz or Zumba) and some personal trainer sessions a week (sorry, I can’t take on any more but we have a great staff!)
Other responsibilities
– Monthly update of group exercise schedule (over 85 classes a week). We are adding Body Combat and Body Jam, and for kids 8-18 years of age, Body Jamboree!
– Schedule fitness center staff, climbing staff
– Process invoices
– Give community talks
– Run great programs like Y for Life with great speakers like Dr. Brian Fazia cardiologist; Dr. Dan Burks, physical therapist; Robin Fisher and Liz Friedrich, both licensed nutritionists; Jennifer Burks, registered nurse ;and of course yours truly.
– Put on great special events like “So you think you can dance?” an elementary school age dance held Saturday, Jan. 31 ó Live DJ and Livingstone Hip Hop Dance group demonstration!
– Attend meetings, attend staff meetings, lead staff meetings, train staff, lead workshops, take workshops, learn new choreography, fix machines (thank you, Larry aka “Coach,” for doing the majority of it!) give tours, help at the front desk, return phone calls, return e-mails, send e-mails, come up with new programs, oh, and of course, write this column which like my job, I enjoy tremendously.
