SALISBURY — The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education will hold an all-day retreat Thursday to plan for the future.
Topics will include examining new funding models, maintenance costs and early planning for the 2018-19 budget, which is due June 30.
The board also will receive an update on nearly a year’s worth of planning from the district’s 13 charter-like restart schools.
These schools are due to launch their new strategies at the beginning of the next school year. According to the agenda, Rowan County has the highest number of restart schools in the state.
New safety updates and strategies are also on the table, including the possibility of hiring additional school resource officers or having off-duty law enforcement officers in schools for the remainder of the school year.
Expansions to the restorative classroom program and local early college also will be up for discussion.
Salaries for classified staff and staff optimization will be considered.
The board will meet Thursday in the Wallace Educational Forum board room, 500 N. Main St. The retreat will begin at 8 a.m.
