PITTSBURGH ó Tyrell Biggs scored 16 points and Pittsburgh struggled early for the second time in as many games since reaching No. 1 before pulling away to beat South Florida 75-62 on Wednesday night.
Sam Young scored 14 points, DeJuan Blair had 13 points and 18 rebounds and Levance Fields had 11 points as the Panthers (16-0, 4-0 Big East) moved to the third-best start in school history.
Dominique Jones and Augustus Gilchrist scored 22 points each for South Florida (6-10, 1-3), which was outrebounded 37-23.
The start of the game was delayed 20 minutes by a rush-hour snowstorm that clogged city streets and caused South Florida’s bus and the game officials to arrive late.
No. 7 Michigan St. 78, Penn St. 73
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. ó Raymar Morgan scored 17 points and Kalin Lucas went 6-of-8 from the free throw line in the final 2 minutes for Michigan State.
Goran Suton added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Spartans (14-2, 4-0 Big Ten), who won their 10th straight.
Down by 17 points with 13:39 left, Penn State (13-5, 2-3) mounted a furious comeback, getting within 71-70 with 1:30 left after an off-balance 3 from Talor Battle.
But Lucas, who finished with 15 points, hit four free throws from there.
Jamelle Cornley led the Nittany Lions with a career-high 26 points, while Battle finished with 20.
No. 13 Georgetown 88, No. 8 Syracuse 74
WASHINGTON ó DaJuan Summers scored 21 points and Georgetown had its best 3-point shooing game of the season.
Austin Freeman scored 19 points and was 4-of-5 on 3-pointers as the Hoyas (12-3, 3-2 Big East) went 12-for-21 from behind the arc.
Eric Devendorf had 20 points and four 3-pointers for the Orange (16-2, 4-1), who had won seven straight, while Paul Harris added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The Hoyas set a season high for 3-point percentage (57.1) and tied their season high for 3-pointers.
Georgetown used a 21-4 run starting midway through the first half to take a 37-18 lead.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. ó Mike Tisdale scored 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting and Demetri McCamey added 17 points for the Illini.
The teams played just 10 days earlier, a 74-64 win at Michigan.
Tisdale scored all but six of his points in the second half for Illinois (15-2, 3-1 Big Ten).
Manny Harris had 20 points for the Wolverines (13-4, 3-2).
