Catawba basketball teams are on the road at Brevard tonight. The doubleheader starts at 6 p.m. at Boshamer Gym with the women’s game.
Neither Catawba team has ever lost to Brevard in the short history of the series.
The women’s game features a coaching matchup between Catawba’s Angie Morton and Brevard’s Shannon Reid, who was a standout player for Morton at Pfeiffer.
Catawba (9-5, 1-2) has gotten fine play of late from Dana Hicks, who is averaging 12.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per contest.
Brevard (4-9) is looking for its first SAC victory.
* Catawba’s men (11-3, 3-0) are in first place in the league and are favored over the Tornados (8-5, 1-3).
Antonio Houston averages 19.7 points a game for the Catawba men.
Jonathan Whitson, a 6-foot-7 junior from Pisgah, averages 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Tornados. Whitson had 28 points as Brevard knocked off Mars Hill for its SAC victory.
WSAT-1280 will broadcast the action.
Catawba is home Saturday afternoon against Mars Hill.

Catawba running back Jamelle Cuthbertson, offensive tackle Terence Crosby and defensive tackle Melquan Fair were first-team picks on the Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super Region II team.
Defensive end Brandon Sutton and linebacker Charles McAfee are on the third team.
– Livingstone men win
Livingstone’s men’s basketball team rallied in the second half to beat Lincoln (Pa.) on the road on Tuesday night.
The Blue Bears trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half at Rivero Hall, but they began the second half with an 11-0 run and went on to secure an 86-73 victory.Livingstone (6-5) benefited from a huge game by Sean Booker, who was 6-for-11 on 3-pointers and scored 26 points.
Tayloe Taylor had 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Calvin Gunning contributed 17 points.
Bryant Leach had 15 points and 12 boards for the Lions (2-10).

– LC women tumble
Livingstone’s women’s basketball team fell at Lincoln 84-79 on Tuesday night.
Cassaundra Rhodes had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Bears (2-10), while Asheka Hudson produced 23 points and six assists. Montiya Harrison added 10 points.
Sharay DuBose scored 23 points for the Lions (2-14).

– Pfeiffer at home
Pfeiffer’s basketball teams are at Merner Gym tonight for a doubleheader with Mount Olive.
The Pfeiffer women (1-9, 1-4) kick things off against the Trojans (8-3, 4-2) at 5:30 p.m.
It’s a critical game for the Pfeiffer men (5-6, 2-2) if they’re going to get back in the Conference Carolinas race. Robert McGriff (17.6 points a game) and Chris Woods (14.2) are leaders for the Falcons, who average 97 points per game.
Mount Olive (6-6, 5-0) is led by Kendrick Easley (16.5) and Craig Hayes (15.2).
– College wrestling
UNC Pembroke’s Timmy Allen (Davie) had a pin at 197 pounds in a 44-7 rout of Spartanburg Methodist on Tuesday.
– Women’s hoops
Tracey Croner (East Rowan) had 11 points and three assists for Guilford in a 72-64 victory against Randolph on Tuesday. Croner was 6-for-6 on free throws.
– NWC kicker excels
Northwest Cabarrus freshman kicker Bradley Pinion is excelling on a national level and is ranked by the National Kicking Combine Series as the top kicker in the Class of 2012.
Pinion won regional and semifinal competitions and finished first in kickoffs, field goals and punting in the nationals held in Houston earlier this month.
Pinion was 8-for-10 on field goals, averaged 58.3 yards on kickoffs and averaged 33.6 yards on punts with 3.8 seconds hang-time.
– Prep basketball
Davie County’s girls played well but lost to CPC foe Mount Tabor 61-51 on Monday.
Charleston Southern-bound Shay Jones scored 17 points for the Spartans (13-1, 2-0).
Asia Steed led Davie with 11 points. Tonesha Turner and Sarah Evans scored eight apiece.
– Stallions hoops
The Cabarrus-Rowan Homeschool Stallions basketball team defeated rival Covenant Classical 66-57 on Tuesday.
K.P. Hicks led the Stallions (7-7) with 24 points. Tim Coleman had 14, while Christian Hicks had 13. Aaron Reeves added seven.
– Jaguar hoops
Sally Fowler scored 10 points to lead SA’s varsity girls to a 24-8 victory against Concordia. Allie Billings added eight points for the the Jaguars (9-5).
* Tyler Petty scored 17 points for the SA varsity boys Red team in a 39-16 victory against Concordia. Trey Bergsma scored 11 points, while Jon Mark Petty had seven for the Jaguars (13-1).
* SA’s jayvee boys lost 27-15 to Concordia. Coleman Bergsma scored 10 points for the Jaguars, while Watson Pitner and Gabe Steinman played well defensively.
* SA’s jayvee girls picked up their second win with a 25-15 victory against Concordia. Alex Warren and Anna Louisa Alexander led the Jaguars.
– GARS event
Forty-two GARS members played at Crescent Golf Club on Monday.
Low ‘A’ Flight player was Jay Boyce with a net of 69.55.
Low ‘B’ player was Nelson Earnhardt with a net of 71.69.
Low ‘C’ player was Ron Ervin with a net of 72.64.
Low ‘D’ player was Bert Bollinger with a net of 67.24.

Pfeiffer named Peter Milliman as head coach for men’s lacrosse.
– Cyclones clinic
The N.C. State Cyclones 11-under baseball team will hold its 1st annual Professional Hitting and Pitching Fundraiser Clinic for ages 10-14 on Feb. 6-7 from 11-3.
White Sox hitting instructor Andy Tomberlin, a Monroe native who worked with the Kannapolis Intimidators in 2008 and will coach at Double-A Birmingham this season, will run the hitting side.
Jeremy Lewis, a former Central Cabarrus lefty with 10 years of pro experience and a current member of the Detroit Tigers organization, will run the pitching side. All-star closer Billy Wagner will make an appearance and assist.
Free lunch and T-shirt for everyone. Only the first 60 players can be accepted ó 30 on Saturday and 30 on Sunday. Cost of the camp is $100. The clinic will be held locally and moved to an indoor location in case of bad weather.
