Area briefs: Phifer leads Wonders

Demarcus “Smoke” Phifer scored 29 points to lead A.L. Brown’s boys basketball team to a 77-67 SPC victory at Parkwood on Saturday.
The teams made up a game postponed during Brown’s football playoff run.
Jacob Newman had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Wonders (6-5, 4-3). Zach Fesperman scored 11 points, and Zach Massey contributed nine.
The Wonders are home against Anson on Tuesday.
n SAC men’s hoops
Jonathan Whitson had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Brevard in a 59-56 home victory against Wingate on Saturday.
n Kyle Moore scored 25 points as Tusculum won 62-53 on the road at Carson-Newman’s Holt Fieldhouse.
n Stuart Miller and D’Mario Curry scored 21 points each as Lincoln Memorial beat Lenoir-Rhyne 69-62 in Harrogate, Tenn.
n Stallion hoops
The Cabarrus-Rowan Homeschool Stallions middle school boys beat Lincoln County 48-43 in overtime.
Grant Stoller scored 11 points for the Stallions (7-8).
n The Cabarrus-Rowan jayvee boys romped over Lincoln County 59-23. John Clay scored 13 points for the Stallions (9-4).
n Pfeiffer men win on road
James Crowder poured in 25 points as Pfeiffer’s men’s basketball team beat Queens 98-84 at Grady Cole Center on Saturday night.
Pfeiffer shot 60 percent from the floor, made nine 3s and forced 27 turnovers.
Davon Gilliard had 15 points for the Falcons, and Chris Donald scored 11. Chris Woods returned from a one-game suspension to contribute 10.
Daniel Bailey had 22 points to pace the Royals.
n Pfeiffer golf
Alison Cowles (Massachusetts), Thomas Sennett (Vermont) and Wilmington’s John Miles signed with Pfeiffer’s golf program.
n DCDS basketball
Davidson Country Day’s girls topped Clemmons Redeemer 45-17. Emerson Hayes led the Diamondbacks with 12 points. Josie Parker and Sidney Parker had 10 rebounds apiece.
n Conor Honeycutt scored 16 points as the DCDS boys topped Redeemer 47-34 to even their record at 10-10. Kenrick Jobe had 14 rebounds and seven blocks. Celexus Long and Alex Franklin scored 10 points apiece.
n Prep girls basketball
Davie’s girls lost to R.J. Reynolds 63-50 in a CPC game on Friday. Kellie Brown scored 16 points for the War Eagles (7-9, 1-2).
n A.L. Brown lost to Sun Valley 69-58. Zebresha Blakeney scored 24 points for the Wonders (1-9, 0-6).n Catawba signee Elizabeth Merritt scored 17 points for East Davidson in a 75-29 rout of West Davidson.
n Jayvee basketball
Brittney Barber scored 12 points for West Rowan in a 42-36 loss against East Rowan on Friday. Allison Dutton scored 11 for the Falcons, and Kim Jenkins added six.
n Kajuan Phillips scored 16 points to power West’s boys to a 46-35 victory over the Mustangs. Isiah Cuthbertson had eight points. Joe Posh scored six, while Maurice Warren and Roy Wood added five each.
n In West’s 54-34 victory against North Iredell, Cuthbertson and Phillips scored 13 points apiece. Warren had eight and Poe six.
n Rowan Little League
Rowan Little League sign-ups are from 9-2 on Jan. 24 at Godley’s Garden Center.

n Umpire clinic
NSA will hold an umpire clinic Sunday, Jan. 25, at Tilley’s Harley Davidson at 653 Bendix Drive, behind the IHOP.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. The clinic starts around 11 and lasts until 2. Fee is $55.
