Hood Theological Seminary

SALISBURY — Dr. Reginald Boyd of Hood Theological Seminary (HTS), was selected vice chairman of the Student Personnel Administrators’ Network (SPAN) of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) during its March conference in Indianapolis. Boyd is director of recruitment and admissions for the seminary.

Student personnel administrators include a variety of professionals, all centered on service to students: recruitment officers, admissions directors, financial aid officers, counseling staff, career services staff, housing staff, registrars and deans of students, among others. These specialists benefit from sharing best practices and peer networking through their participation in the Student Personnel Administrators Network (SPAN). Annual conferences, webinars, a listserv and other resources cover topics such as administrative structures in various institutional settings, vocational identity, spiritual formation, seminary community and position nomenclature.

Boyd was born and raised in Charlotte, and attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. He is a 2003 graduate of Livingstone College and a double alumnus of Hood Theological Seminary, where he received master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees in 2008 and 2014, respectively. He also holds a diploma in retail management and small business management from American Business and Fashion Institute. While working with Bank of America in 1999, he began ministry at Little Rock A.M.E. Zion Church in Charlotte.

After transferring to the South Atlantic Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Zion Church in 2008, Boyd was ordained and appointed to Center Emmanuel A.M.E. Zion Church in January 2010. While serving as pastor of Center Emmanuel, he was elected conference secretary of the South Carolina Conference and the first year conference studies teacher. He also led the congregation into a new sanctuary in May 2012. During the convocation of the South Atlantic Episcopal District in January 2013, Rev. Boyd was appointed to Union Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Bear Creek, NC.

The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS) is a membership organization of graduate schools that conduct post-baccalaureate professional and academic degree programs to educate persons for the practice of ministry and for teaching and research in the theological disciplines. The Commission on Accrediting of ATS accredits the schools and approves the degree programs they offer. The current membership includes nearly 250 graduate theological schools in the United States and Canada who are accredited or candidates for accreditation. The commission is recognized by the United States Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
