South Carolina State’s Sophilia Hipps (North Rowan) scored 32 points and had eight rebounds in a 73-66 victory against Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Saturday.
Hipps surpassed the 1,000-point milestone for her career. Hipps needed 15 points for 1,000 and scored 11 in the first half for the Bulldogs (5-13).
Hipps, a 5-foot-5 junior, is North’s all-time scoring leader with 2,264 points.
n Guilford’s Tracey Croner (East Rowan) had 21 points and eight rebounds in a 67-56 loss against Washington & Lee on Friday.
n Meredith’s Brittany Cornelius (East) had 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a 78-55 loss against Ferrum on Saturday.
n Saybah Sammy (Salisbury) had four points and three rebounds for Fayetteville State in a 60-38 loss against Bowie State on Saturday.
n Brittini Young hit five 3s and scored 19 points to lead Mars Hill to a 73-61 SAC win against Brevard.
n Stephanie Wagner scored 28 points to lead Lincoln Memorial to a 93-88 SAC victory against Wingate.
n Jami Safrit scored 22 points to lead Lenoir-Rhyne to a 77-64 SAC win against Tusculum.
n Ashley Tipton’s 18 points paced Carson-Newman to a 68-64 SAC victory against Newberry.
n Livingstone women
Livingstone’s women’s basketball team lost to J.C. Smith 73-64 on Saturday.
The Golden Bulls (12-8, 8-4) overcame an eight-point halftime deficit. Wendy Stywalt scored 18 of her 23 points after halftime.
Rashida Elbourne scored 15 points for the Blue Bears (5-14, 4-8). Brittany Wright scored 12, and Montiya Harrison added 11.

n Pfeiffer women
Pfeiffer’s women’s basketball team surprised Belmont Abbey for a 66-63 Conference Carolinas victory on Saturday.
Jamila Harris scored 20 points for the Falcons. Devona Knight had 12 points and 15 rebounds. Former Davie standouts Nicole Maready and Carly Booth combined for 12 points.
Shayla Jackson scored 20 points for Belmont Abbey.
n Pfeiffer men roll
Robert McGriff scored 26 points to lead Pfeiffer’s men’s basketball team to a 103-89 victory at Belmont Abbey on Saturday.
Pfeiffer had been whipped 48 hours earlier at home by the Crusaders.
Pfeiffer shot 55 percent from the field and had a 41-34 edge on the glass. Chris Woods had a huge game with 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Jeff Pettiway drilled four 3s and scored 17 points.
Jonathan Jackson poured in 26 points for the Crusaders.
n Men’s college basketball
Kyle Moore scored 25 points to lead Tusculum to an 80-68 SAC victory against Lenoir-Rhyne.
n DeMario Mattox scored 18 points to lead Wingate to a 65-60 SAC victory against Lincoln Memorial.
n Danny Sanders scored 28 points for Mars Hill in a 95-78 SAC victory against Mars Hill.
n Joey Cameron’s 26 points lifted Carson-Newman to an 87-83 SAC upset of Newberry.
n Wesley Honeycutt (South Rowan) scored five points for Davidson County Community College in an 84-83 victory against CCCC.
n College indoor track
N.C. State’s Jason Jones (East Rowan) won the shot put at Saturday’s Carolina Classic with a throw of 54 feet, 71/4 inches. Jones has won three of his five meets this season.
Jones was second in the weight throw with a heave of 55-41/4.
n N.C. State’s Lamont Savage (West Rowan) won the long jump at the Carolina Classic with an effort of 23-63/4. Savage was 18th in the 200 meters (24.08 seconds).
n Charlotte’s Jake Deaton (Mooresville) was second to Jones in the shot put (52-13/4).n Appalachian State’s Mark Sturgis (North Rowan) was eighth in the long jump (22-31/2) at the Niswonger Invitational held at East Tennessee State.
n ASU’s Phillip Bush (North) was 11th in the long jump (22-1/4) and sixth in the 60 hurdles (8.58).
n Charlotte’s Makenzie Mullinax (South Rowan) was 15th in the pole vault (10-61/4) at the Penn State National Open.
Prep wrestling
Salisbury finished fourth while North Rowan was seventh in Saturday’s CCC meet at West Davidson.
Ledford won the event, with Central Davidson second and West Davidson third.
Salisbury’s Dontarius Mills (103), Tre Jackson (140) and Ike Whitaker (189) won championships.
Joseph Figueroa (130) was second. Blayne Johnson (135), Marqui Ross (152) and Justin Adkins (285) were third.
North’s Drew Laurens (145) and Jeremiah Boger (189) finished third. Taylor Johnston (125) and Maurice Gallon (215) placed fourth.
n A.L. Brown finished fourth in the SPC wrestling tournament held at Piedmont on Saturday.
Wonders Tristan Steele (103), Morgan McDaniel (135) and Jonathan Donatien (140) won their weight classes. McDaniel had three straight pins.
Michael Powell was second at 145. Brendan Brown (112) was third, while Colby Reid (152), Arley Flores (160) and Allen Wagner (171) finished fourth.
n Prep basketball
Basketball coach Mike Gurley won his 266th game at the helm of West Rowan on Friday when the Falcons beat East Rowan at home.
Gurley, who is in his 12th season at West, tied Sam Gealy for second place in all-time boys basketball coaching wins in Rowan County. Gealy recorded wins at North Rowan and Salisbury.
Gurley, who won a state title at Lexington, is 266-65 since he arrived in Mount Ulla.
County record-holder Bob Hundley coached 274 victories at North Rowan.
All three coaches won state titles.
nn Jayvee basketball
East Rowan’s girls defeated West Rowan 52-37 on Friday. Ashley Goins scored 13 points for the Mustangs, while Bridget Boling had 12. Lindsey Dunlap had eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.
Brittney Barber scored 16 points for the Falcons, while Alison Dutton had seven and Kim Jenkins five.
n West’s boys topped East 72-51.
Kajuan Phillips scored 20 points for the Falcons. Isaiah Cuthbertson (13), Maurice Warren (12) were also in double figures, while Jarvis Morgan added eight points.n Stallions hoops
The Cabarrus-Rowan Homeschool Stallions varsity boys defeated Surry Home Education 77-66 on Friday.
Tim Coleman scored 22 points for the Stallions. K.P. Hicks scored 17 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Kyle Kiker had 10 points and 12 boards for coach Matt Randolph’s squad.
– The Stallion varsity girls fell lost to Surry 55-34. Hannah Holm scored 14 points.
– The Stallion jayvee boys improved to 12-4 with a 61-60 win against Surry. Sam Nelson scored 15 points. James Dare (12), Andrew Kelly (11) and Jason Long (10).
– The Stallion middle school boys lost to Surry 45-44 in overtime. Jordan Long led the Stallions with 18 points.
n 7th-grade hoops
West Rowan’s boys defeated Corriher-Lipe 68-26.
Devin Parks scored 16 points to lead the Bulldogs. Broderick Avery had 10 points and six steals. Daisean Reddick had eight points and five steals. Najee Tucker had 11 rebounds, four blocks and five steals.
n Prep tennis
Northwest Cabarrus’ Kelli Ferguson has signed to play at Wingate.
Ferguson was All-NPC four times and NPC Player of the Year three times.
n Hurley Y signups
Registration continues at Hurley YMCA through Feb. 8 for boys basketball leagues for grades 2-12 and cheerleading for grades 2-6.
n The Y will hold a Disney-sponsored knockout game for ages 6-14, on Feb. 12, at 6:30 p.m. The first 75 to enter receive a free wristband. Winner gets a Disney XD basketball.

The West Rowan High School Athletic Boosters will meet in the school media center on Monday, Feb. 2, at 6:30 pm.
