SALISBURY — At its Tuesday meeting, the Salisbury City Council will consider a request to rename the Prescott section of the greenway “Bill Stanback Greenway.”

Stanback, who died at age 95 in February, was a former mayor of Salisbury and was known for his work with civic and philanthropic organizations.

At one of its recent meetings, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted unanimously to recommend that Council consider the renaming.

Should the Council vote to consider the renaming, a 30-day comment period would be opened to allow for public input.

Council will take that public input into account when it makes its final decision on the name change.

If the name change is approved at the end of the 30-day comment period, a renaming ceremony will be planned for the Prescott section of the greenway.

Other items on the agenda include:

• Council will consider adopting an ordinance that would designate the Edgar S. Temple house a local historic landmark.

Edgar S. Temple was a local landscape engineer who died in 1975.

His former home, located at 1604 Statesville Boulevard, was built in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. According to a designation report on the property, that architectural style is “locally significant.”

The house was built in the early 1930s and was one of the earliest homes in the Milford Hills subdivision.

• Council will once again consider rezoning five parcels of land along Statesville Boulevard so that an 80-unit apartment building can be constructed.

• Council will receive a financial report that covers the third quarter of the current fiscal year.

The Salisbury City Council will meet May 1 at 5 p.m. at City Hall, located at 217 South Main Street. The meeting is open to the public.
