Food Lion celebrates sustainability progress in honor of Earth Day
SALISBURY — In honor of Earth Day, Food Lion is celebrating its commitment to sustainable retailing by releasing an infographic highlighting its progress in 2017.
Food Lion is among the leaders in the grocery industry in sustainability. Food Lion’s sustainability effort in 2017 included donating more than 100 million meals to its local feeding agency partners as well as recycling more than 128,000 tons of material.
In addition, Food Lion recently received its 17th Energy Star Partner of the Year award, making it the only grocer and corporate partner in the nation to have won that many consecutively.
Since 2000, Food Lion has saved more than 843.6 million kWh of energy, which is equivalent to powering every household in the company’s 10-state footprint for one day.

Free Comic Book Day is May 5
SALISBURY — Collectivity – The Comic Book Shoppe, which is located at 308 North Salisbury GQ Ave, will be celebrating Free Comic Book Day May 5th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Its normal business hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Free Comic Book Day has three main purposes — to introduce individuals to the joys of reading comic books, to call back former comic book readers and to thank current comic book buyers for their continued support of this unique American medium.
Publishers produce special edition comics geared towards attracting new readers of all ages for Free Comic Book Day.
There will be a wide variety of comic book titles available, including traditional comics from Archie and Disney, superhero comics from both Marvel and DC Comics, and works from manga and independent publishers.
Everyone who comes in will be able to choose one comic book from the store’s selection of 2018 Free Comic Book Day titles. If customers make a purchase, they will receive another free comic from the selection.
In addition to a 2018 Free Comic Book Day book, multiple comics from prior Free Comic Book Day Comics will be available.
Customers who have a DC- or Marvel-Comics-related costume are encouraged to wear it to the store.
The store offers a large selection of manga books; silver-, bronze- and current-age comics; trade paperbacks; action figures; posters; records; books; and antiques.
Comic book subscription service is available.
Free Comic Book Day started in 2002 and is coordinated by the industry’s single largest distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors.
Salisbury Tractor Supply spotlights local goods, talents during spring Market Day
SALISBURY — Tractor Supply Company in Salisbury is showcasing the talents of local craft makers, artisans and growers during its spring Market Day event May 12.
Community members are invited to celebrate spring by shopping local, homemade and homegrown goods at the Salisbury Tractor Supply from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Crafters and growers will display their goods for sale in tented areas in front of the Tractor Supply store.
Participating local vendors include Earth Healthy, which will be on-site from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Train, Play, Live Dog Training, which will be on-site from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“Market Day allows us to provide a space for the Salisbury community to come together to shop local, support their neighbors, and highlight the incredible talent that’s right here in our own backyard,” said Bob Snook, manager of the Salisbury Tractor Supply. “You never know what you might find at this one-day event — or how it might inspire your family’s next crafting or growing adventure.”
Tractor Supply’s Market Day will take place Saturday, May 12, at 405 Jake Alexander Blvd South.
