Area Sports Briefs: Golf regionals today

Golf regional action will be held today, with golfer starting early in the morning.
In the 3A Midwest Regional at Greensboro National, East Rowan will be trying to qualify its boys team for another state tournament.
East’s Bryson Sprinkle will be on the first tee at 8 a.m. and will be followed by Austin Miller, Alex Miller, Colby Patterson and William Garland.
Carson’s Zain Tucker and West Rowan’s Davis Tadlock and Jake Carlton will be competing in the regional as individuals.
The 3A State Championships will be at Longleaf next week.

At Warrior, Salisbury’s team will be competing in the 2A Midwest regional.
Alex Antosek will be the first Hornet to tee off at 9:30 a.m. He’ll be followed by Hank Robins, Will Fowler, Harrison Parrott and Jaise Rivens.
South Rowan’s Andrew Coward and Andrew Jackson will be competing in the regional as individuals.
The top three teams, plus the top six individuals not on one of the qualifying teams will qualify for the state tournament.
The 2A State Championships will be at Whispering Pines next week.
Prep track
The Central Carolina Conference Championships are set for Oak Grove on Wednesday.

The North Piedmont Conference Championships are set for East Rowan on Tuesday.
Prep baseball
The Central Carolina Conference Tournament will include the top four teams, with semifinals set for Finch Field on Tuesday.
Salisbury will be the No. 4 seed. The Hornets play at South Rowan to close the regular season tonight.

The Yadkin Valley Conference Tournament begins today.
Fifth-seeded North Rowan plays at No. 4 seed North Moore in the first round.

McGwire Smith and Kobe Dupree pitched North Rowan to a 10-7 win against Northwest Cabarrus in Spencer on Saturday.
Will Anthony had two doubles and three RBIs. Dupree had two hits. Brett Tucker and Johnathan Hillard made outstanding defensive plays for the Cavaliers (9-12).
Prep softball
South Rowan is seeded third for the Central Carolina Conference Tournament and will play in a Wednesday semifinal against Ledford at North Davidson.
Prep tennis
Pairings will be announced today for the dual team state playoffs that are set to begin Wednesday.
Local tennis
Jayden Wellman, a 12-year-old from Kannapolis, won the AMP Boys Junior Star Tennis Academy Tournement for 14s in Concord.
Wellman won four matches and beat Concord’s Jake Handler 3-6, 6-3, (10-8) in the final.
Intimidators
LAKEWOOD, N.J. — Danny Mayer hit a solo home run in the second inning to give the Lakewood BlueClaws a 1-0 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators on Sunday.
John Parke (3-1) took the tough loss. The Intimidators left 13 runners on base.
