KANSAS CITY, Mo. ó Todd Haley was hired as coach of the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday after helping the Arizona Cardinals reach the Super Bowl as coordinator of one of the NFL’s most exciting offenses.
Haley joins a team that went a franchise-worst 2-14 under coach Herm Edwards, who was fired Jan. 23.
The Chiefs haven’t won a postseason game since an aging Joe Montana was their quarterback in the 1993 season.
Haley, who turns 42 this month, helped shape an offense that carried the Cardinals to an improbable NFC West title and nearly a Super Bowl victory over Pittsburgh.
He did not start calling plays until late in the 2007 season. But this season an Arizona offense led by quarterback Kurt Warner set a franchise record with 427 points, finished third in scoring in the NFL and was second in yards passing.
STEROIDSSAN FRANCISCO ó A federal judge on Friday sentenced former NFL player Dana Stubblefield to two years’ probation for lying to investigators about his steroid use.U.S. District Judge Susan Illston cited Stubblefield’s later cooperation with authorities in the BALCO steroids case as she declined to sentence him to three months’ home confinement, which is what federal probation officials had recommended.

KAPOLEI, Hawaii ó “Aloha” means many things in Hawaiian, including farewell and hello. It’s a fitting word these days for the Pro Bowl.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Thursday he was hopeful the league and the state will reach a deal possibly by next week to bring the all-star game back to Hawaii.
“The reality is, we’d like to be back here on a rotational basis,” Goodell said. “The Pro Bowl has got a great history here and tradition.”
Sunday’s Pro Bowl will end a 30-year run in Honolulu.
