NEWARK, N.J.ó Scott Clemmensen made 27 saves in posting his first NHL shutout in nearly five years, and Zach Parise scored twice to lift the New Jersey Devils to a 3-0 victory Monday night over the skidding New York Rangers.
The Rangers have dropped a season-high five straight.
Clemmensen, who has 23 wins in place of injured regular Martin Brodeur, wasn’t severely tested as he earned his third career shutout and first in 58 games ó dating to March 26, 2004, at Atlanta.
His time in the Devils net could be ending soon as Brodeur skated Monday and is close to returning to action. Brodeur has missed 44 games due to a biceps tendon injury sustained earlier this season.
Flames 6, Canadiens 2
CALGARY, Alberta ó Matthew Lombardi and Dustin Boyd scored short-handed goals.
With the win, Flames coach Mike Keenan tied Pat Quinn for fourth all-time in NHL coaching victories with 657.
Michael Cammalleri, Rene Bourque and David Moss also scored for Calgary, which snapped a season-high four-game losing streak. Lombardi added two assists for his second three-point game of the season.
The victory increased the Flames’ lead over Minnesota atop the Northwest Division to seven points.

The Blues signed center Andy McDonald to a four-year contract extension. … Sean Avery cleared waivers, and the next step for the Stars is to find a team for the controversial left wing. … Lightning goalie Mike Smith, who has missed the past three games, is suffering from post-concussion syndrome. The team said Monday he may be able to return to the ice within a week.
