More data needed on fiber optic planI have been reading most of the stories about the city of Salisbury’s attempt to start its own cable company using fiber optic cable. First, I would like to say I definitely support the concept. I lived in Massachusetts for a few years and our town not only had their own cable company but electric company as well. The rates were competitive and all net profits reverted to the town budget.
I do have some questions, though, that I hope get answered soon. It is my understanding that the town will run fiber optic to the cable junctions located in the neighborhoods. What about the cable running from the cable junctions to the individual houses? Also, the cable inside the individual houses ó does that get replaced as well? Technically, from a performance issue, does it even need to be replaced? If it needs to be replaced to take full advantage of fiber optic service, who pays? Many people who would normally switch service may be hesitant to do so if they have to incur an individual upgrade cost to make the service worthwhile.

More support for Knox
In response to the Jan. 29 letter about Knox, I applaud the principal. Not only do I agree with Mr. Alexander, but also I am appalled that a teacher would be out in a place as public as Food Lion disrespecting the principal.
All the students in my apartment complex speak fondly of Mr. MoragneEl, and the parents talk about his passion for the kids. Why are some people so stuck on what went unnoticed in the past that they cannot accept the changes of the future?
It was all right for the past few years when the students would walk past the principal with their pants sagging, and nothing was said. There was so much chaos that I dared not recommend anyone send their child there. Children were being bullied to the point that they hated to come to school. The halls were like a zoo. Everyone in the community talked about the school and how bad it was.
Knox now has a principal who is not going for any of that mess, and someone wants to blast him. Why? Because they can’t control their class and want to send a student out. A supposedly educated person who refuses to make that rugged climb from hell into heaven.
My support goes out to Mr. MoragneEl, the administration, faculty and staff who are on board for change. It is all about helping our kids to be productive citizens in society. They are our future. Thank you, Mr. MoragneEl.
