Wednesday’s dreary morning did nothing to dampen the enthusiastic spirit of Step Into Spring 2. The luncheon, fashion show and card party was held at the Civic Center, and featured clothing from Christopher & Banks and C.J. Banks at Carolina Mall in Concord.
Sponsored by the Salisbury-Rowan Newcomers Club, the event is a fundraiser for local charities.
Club president Carol Denhard presented checks for $1,000 each to Rowan Helping Ministries and the Women’s Crisis Center.
Then it was time for lunch catered by Matt Trexler, the fashion show and a fun afternoon of bridge and other card games.
Models for the day were Mary James, Peggy Lutz, Billie Simmons, Rosemary Sokolowski, Ruth Trollinger and Cathy Zalenski.
Denhard said that 157 people attended the event, down slightly from last year, but she expected it.
“We were still able to contribute $1,000 to each charity,” she said. “People like this kinda thing.”
That was evident by the number of bridge hands played.
