OTTAWA ó Dany Heatley scored his 30th goal of the season Tuesday night and the Ottawa Senators went on to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2.
It’s the fifth time in his seven NHL seasons that he’s reached the 30-goal mark and fourth year in a row.
Heatley and Chris Kelly scored goals 46 seconds apart in the first period for Ottawa.
Patrick Eaves and Anton Babchuk scored for Carolina, which had its three-game win streak stopped. The Hurricanes remain in ninth in the East, one point behind the Sabres and Panthers.

WASHINGTON ó Scott Hartnell and Jeff Carter scored two of Philadelphia’s three goals in a 31/2-minute span of the third periodt.

MONTREAL ó Jaroslav Halak made 34 saves for his first shutout of the season and Tomas Plekanec had a goal and an assist. Halak won his second successive start and posted his fourth career shutout, his first since March 15.

BUFFALO, N.Y. ó Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 34 shots in the win over the injury-depleted Sabres.

BOSTON ó Rookie fourth-line winger Byron Bitz scored his second and third NHL goals in the opener of Boston’s six-game homestand.
Thrashers 4, Avalanche 3
ATLANTA ó Ilya Kovalchuk got his 10th goal in eight games, and the Thrashers had two short-handed scores to break a four-game home losing streak. The Thrashers won for just the fifth time in their last 21 games at Philips Arena.
Overall, Atlanta has four victories and eight points in its last seven matches.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ó The Predators scored four third-period goals. Jason Arnott, J.P Dumont, David Legwand, Joel Ward and Shea Weber scored for Nashville, which entered the final period down 3-1. Dumont and Weber connected on power plays.
Blues 2, Coyotes 1
ST. PAUL, Minn. ó Drew Doughty scored the deciding shootout goal. The shootout was tied 1-1 after three rounds and Doughty scored the winner on the Kings’ fourth shot.
Kings goalie Jonathan Quick denied Brent Burns, the Wild’s final shooter, to seal the win.
