Bob Trott (A.L. Brown) was hired as linebackers coach at Virginia on Thursday.
Trott was linebackers coach for the Cleveland Browns the past five years.
Trott, who walked on at UNC and became a starting safety, made the All-ACC Academic team in 1975.
He graduated from UNC in 1976. He has been an assistant coach for a number of college programs, including stints at Baylor, Duke, Clemson and Arkansas.
n Catawba hoopsCatawba basketball teams wind up the regular season this afternoon with games against SAC foe Brevard.
The doubleheader starts with the women’s game at 2 p.m.
Catawba’s men (17-9, 9-6) are tied for third in the league. The top four seeds will be home for the first round of the SAC tournament. Brevard is 3-12 in the SAC.
Catawba’s women (15-11, 7-9) will be favored against Brevard, which is still looking for its first league win.

Pfeiffer’s Brittany Beltran was named Conference Carolinas Golfer of the Month.
n Falcons honored
Pfeiffer’s Chris Woods and Robert McGriff were second team selections on the All-Conference Carolinas team, while Devona Knight was Honorable Mention on the All-CC women’s squad.n Catawba rainouts
Catawba’s baseball game scheduled for Friday against Tusculum was postponed (today’s doubleheader starts at 4).
Friday afternoon softball and Saturday’s tennis contests were cancelled.
n 7th grade hoops
North Rowan put three players in double figures in a 67-19 win over Corriher-Lipe.
Michael Bost led the way with 13 points, followed by Michael Connor with 11 and Kasaun Coney 10.
Three North players, Michael Banner, Jaquan Boyd and Takeo Deal, all had eight.n Bank of NC tourney
Davidson Country Day’s boys beat St. John’s of Winston-Salem 49-32 in the first round of the Bank of N.C. Championships.
Kenrick Jobe led the Diamondbacks (17-14) with 13 points. Coleman Hayes scored 10 points, while Conor Honeycutt and Celexus Long had nine apiece.

The Jesse Carson High School booster club will hold its monthly meeting Monday at 6 p.m. in the media center. All members are invited to attend.
