College Basketball Regional Roundup: Charlotte rips Fordham

CHARLOTTEó Charlotte coach Bobby Lutz is not happy with the 49ers’ record this season.
However, Lutz is more than satisfied with the way his team is playing entering the final week of the Atlantic 10 Conference’s regular season.
“We have a legitimate chance to finish strong and beat somebody in the tournament,” Lutz said after Charlotte’s 73-55 win over Fordham on Saturday. “We’ve shown that we can play with anybody and beat teams at the top.
“I’m not terribly happy with our record … (but the players) haven’t given in, they haven’t made excuses, they haven’t blamed each other and they haven’t blamed me ó at least to my face.”
DiJuan Harris had 14 points and 11 assists to lead six players scoring in double figures for the 49ers (11-17, 5-9), who snapped a two-game losing streak.
Lamont Mack had 13 points and RaShad Coleman and Ian Andersen scored 11 points each for Charlotte. Charlie Coley III and Phil Jones had 10 each.
G. Mason 71, Towson 59
FAIRFAX, Va. ó Former West Rowan standout Junior Hairston continued his fine play in Towson’s 71-59 loss to George Mason.
The Patriots (20-9, 13-5 Colonial Athletic Association) clinched the second seed in the conference tournament.
Hairston finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. He was 3-for-4 from 3-point range, blocked three shots and had two steals.
Samford 72, App. State 63
BOONE ó Andy King scored 20 points to lead Samford to a 72-63 victory over Appalachian State.
King hit four 3-pointers as the Bulldogs (14-15, 9-11 Southern Conference) won for the first time in three games heading into the conference tournament, which begins March 6 in Chattanooga.
WCU 86, Chattanooga 77
CULLOWHEE ó Brandon Giles scored 23 points and Brigham Waginger added 22 to lead Western Carolina past Chattanooga.
With the win, the Catamounts (16-14, 11-9 Southern Conference) earned the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the tournament.
UNC-G 74, Elon 66
GREENSBORO ó Ben Stywall scored 23 points, Kendall Toney added 15 and North Carolina-Greensboro closed its regular season by beating Elon.
Liberty 92, Radford 85
RADFORD, Va. ó Seth Curry scored 25 points and Kyle Ohman added 24 as Liberty defeated Radford 92-85, snapping the Highlanders’ nine-game winning streak despite Artsiom Parakhouski’s career-high 39 points plus 19 rebounds.
