New central office waste of money
A school central office has been an issue for years. For our commissioners to throw $10.5 million (including interest) at this ongoing problem is irrational and wasteful of taxpayer dollars.
The Emerson/Beard/Norman school boards have been dysfunctional for years. How did the central office supercede issues at Woodleaf and a Knox replacement? Forgoing redistricting has severely affected North Rowan, and now you indicate you want the most costly alternative for a new office.
No firm site, no blueprints, no true plan. But our commissioners commit tax dollars and stick their heads in the sand: “It’s a school board issue.”
I don’t think so!
This phantom plan must be the joint venture with Salisbury’s (proposed) convention center. What are our future costs? Six million for a parking deck, year-round lighting and 24-hour security.
Have commissioners forgotten our joint venture with the Kannapolis Intimidators’ stadium? Do we want another fiasco of this nature? Salisbury’s “build it and they will come” is not a sure bet.
At the retreat, Carl Ford stated he got too much information. You must not have reviewed what you received; you signed on for the job ó now do it!
I don’t often agree with Tina Hall, but there are too many economically feasible alternatives to waste money on any new construction.
Review of the $20,000 Winn-Dixie site study indicated ample room without an addition and 4,200 square feet of unused space. This option would cost under $7 million (with interest), is beneficial to two areas of Salisbury ó uptown and the Jake Alexander corridor ó and is a great location, with parking and room to expand.
Commissioners, you’re throwing away our money, not tossing in the towel on a poor group of school board members with a bad game plan.

New Marshall Plan?
First, we have to admit to ourselves that the United States did not win the Cold War.
We won a great battle and paid for it by giving away our domestic industry to former enemy combatants and propped up “friends” to support a way of life.
We owe mainland Red-Communist China trillions of dollars! We drive to Wal-Mart and Cracker Barrel to buy things made in (Red) China or Vietnam in our efficient Japanese and quality German cars.
As we bail out companies that are too big to fail, meaning that we allowed them to be too big through mergers and acquisitions for the benefit of senior management, we should look to break them back into manageable entities.
As for what to do, we need a “Domestic Marshall Plan” of our own.
Start here in North Carolina by building an eco-responsible, multi-product refinery.
Look to the development of efficient algae farms, rather than less efficient crops.
Hook up with and subsidize small business (tax cuts) industries to compete with multi-national corporations (cut loop holes) that “subsidize” our international competitors.
In other words, create jobs here!
