Rowan County’s American Legion home  baseball  game with Mooresville was washed out on Sunday.

Rowan (5-0) has had four games washed out in the early going.

There was some hope last week to make up the Eastern Randolph game tonight, but that’s not going to happen.

Rowan is on the road Wednesday at Davidson County, plays at Greensboro on Thursday, and heads to Mount Pleasant High for a game with Concord on Friday. That game will be the first one for Rowan that counts in the division standings.

Rowan won’t return home until Saturday when it has a league game scheduled against Concord. Games start at 7 p.m.

In Junior Legion action, Carson rolled against East Rowan, 9-1, on Sunday.

Mason Heard took the win on the mound with relief help from Deacon Wike. Logan Rogers had three hits and four RBIs, while Aaron Bradshaw had two hits.

Carson (5-0) plays at South Rowan on Wednesday.  South Rowan won against West Rowan, 8-7, on Sunday but was rained out on Monday.

Legion baseball is still strong in Area IV. There are 19 teams this season.

The Western Division includes Cherryville Post 100, Asheville Post 70, Burke County Post 21, Burnsville Post 122, Caldwell County Post 29, Hickory Post 48, Henderson County Post 77, Rutherford County Post 423 and Taylorsville Post 170.

The Eastern Division is   Gaston Post 144-266, Gastonia Post 23, Kings Mountain Post 155, Lincoln County Post 455 , Shelby Post 82, Huntersville Post 321, Maiden Post 240, Mint Hill/Pineville Post 337 and Union County Post 535.

Prep track

Competing in the 17-18 age group for the Salisbury Speedsters, Kannapolis’ Cambrea Sturgis ran a world-class time of 11.08 in a prelim in the 100 meters in the  Johnson & Riley Track Challenge in High Point.

That time places her No. 1 all-time in the 100 for N.C. girls running outdoors.

Sturgis ran the final in the rain and clocked 11.68.

Sturgis is coached by Tim Dunlap.

Basketball camps

Former Catawba men’s basketball coach Jim Baker is holding his famed Timeout basketball camps for the 25th year. The instructional staff includes former Catawba Indian Jolly Manning. Camps are for boys and girls, ages 5-15.

Falcon hoops camp

Falcon basketball camp is June 18-20 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. daily.

There’s a second camp from July 9-11.

Local golf

In McCanless Couples play on Sunday,  the winners were  Ralph & Pam Carver and David & Azalee Huneycutt.

Finishing second was the team of   Kristi Laton, Mary Seaford and Walt Kincaid.  Kincaid won closest to the pin.   Pam Carver won longest putt.
