SALISBURY – The 20th annual John A. Campbell Memorial Golf Classic raised $145,000 for the Cancer Care Center at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.
The tournament, hosted by the Rowan Medical Center Foundation along with presenting sponsors MSS Solutions and Vannoy Construction, was held May 4 at the Country Club of Salisbury. It drew 250 participants, a record for the tournament.
Proceeds from the tournament add to the foundation’s efforts to raise $12 million for the Cancer Care Center. The center will offer patient-centered cancer care for residents of Rowan and neighboring counties.
Plans for the new center include medical and radiation oncology; a comprehensive infusion center; PET imaging; CT imaging and lab services; palliative care; integrative medicine; clinical trials; a pharmacy; genetic counseling; cancer care nurse navigations; a Look Good, Feel Good boutique; a wellness garden; and a patient/family education library and classrooms.
With proceeds from the tournament, the foundation also was able to provide $1,000 scholarships to area high school seniors who are interested in pursuing health care careers. This year’s scholarship recipients are:
• Tanner Basinger, East Rowan High School.
• Taylor Ellis, North Rowan High School.
• Cordelia Lambert, South Rowan High School.
