SALISBURY — “History on Tap,” the event that combines history and the sampling of locally produced New Sarum beers, returns for its fourth summer in a row.

Historic Salisbury Foundation invites the public to its “H.O.T” series, taking place from 6-8 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of June, July and August.

“We invite active and potential members of HSF to cool off by sampling local craft beer while exploring several of the community’s more interesting historic places and spaces,” HSF said in a press release. “Participants will see — and taste — the real Salisbury.”

The 2018 H.O.T. series will take place June 28, July 26 and Aug. 23. There is no charge for the H.O.T. events, though donations are welcome. Registration includes two tickets for craft beer samples, provided by New Sarum Brewery of Salisbury.

The series will launch June 28 with a special insider tour of the O.O. Rufty General Store Fire Restoration and Adaptive Reuse Project on East Innes Street.

Be one of the first of the public to explore a vision for retail space and urban living in this well-known downtown landmark. This will still be an active construction site, so waivers are required, and visitors are asked to wear flat, closed-toe shoes.

Strollers are not permitted. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

On July 26, the series will continue at the historic City Fire Station on South Lee Street. The 1896 station has seen many uses, most recently a string of restaurants. An adaptive reuse project is in the works for the large, brick station.

The finale will be held Aug. 23 with “the house that disappeared,” the McCanless-Busby-Thompson House on West Thomas Street.

The house is undergoing a major restoration project and the owners can’t wait to share their progress and plans for this two-story brick colonial revival beauty.

“These events provide the community with an opportunity to discover our remarkable history and architecture while having a fun night out with friends,” HSF said.

Attendance is limited and the H.O.T. events are often sold out.
