Dunn hit six 3-pointers and scored 24 points, leading a late surge as Baylor rallied after blowing a 17-point lead to stun No. 11 Kansas 71-64 in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals on Thursday.
“We kept telling ourselves we can’t get down and just can’t give up,” said Dunn, who is constantly calling for the ball when he’s not defended. “We just kept fighting, and it turned out great for us.”
It was the first time in the tournament’s 13-year history that Kansas lost its opening game, and the first time that a No. 9 seed had taken down the top seed.
The three-time defending champions made up the deficit quickly and led by five before Dunn fueled a decisive 12-0 run for the Bears (19-13).
Kansas (25-7) became only the second top-seeded team to lose its opening game at the Big 12 tournament. Baylor was also responsible for the other upset, beating Iowa State in 2001. That was the Bears’ only other trip to the semifinals.
Oklahoma State 71, Oklahoma 70
James Anderson made both free throws with 2.3 seconds to lift Oklahoma State to a 71-70 upset of No. 6 Oklahoma.
Byron Eaton had 16 points and seven assists for Oklahoma State (22-10), which snapped a five-game losing streak against Oklahoma (27-5) and all but clinched an NCAA tournament berth.
No. 14 Missouri 81, Texas Tech 60
DeMarre Carroll scored 19 points and No. 14 Missouri used a pair of second-half spurts to avoid an upset at the Big 12 tournament, beating Texas Tech 81-60
The Tigers (26-6) used runs of 13 and 10 consecutive points to put away the Red Raiders (14-19). J.T. Tiller and Matt Lawrence each added 13 points for Missouri.
Texas 61, Kansas State 58
Dexter Pittman dominated inside for a second straight game, finishing with 19 points and a career-high 20 rebounds as Texas beat Kansas State 61-58.
