KANNAPOLIS — A Kannapolis man was charged with assault after Rowan County authorities say an argument left a woman with a serious cut to her hand.
Christopher Michael Gilbert, 35, was charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon. He was initially under a 48-hour hold with no bond because of the domestic nature of the incident.
When a deputy arrived at the home, he was met by Gilbert, who had specks of blood on his clothing. He appeared to be intoxicated, a report said.
Officers checked Gilbert for weapons and found none. A woman at the Unity Church Road home had lots of blood on her clothes, and her right hand had been bandaged by a Rowan EMS crew. The woman had a deep cut between her thumb and index finger.
Gilbert and the woman had argued, and the verbal exchange became physical, according to a Sheriff’s Office report. A black serrated kitchen knife was used in the assault.
Another adult in the house at the time of the assault grabbed an 18-month-old child and went into a bedroom because of fear they could be hurt during the fight, according to the report.
