Flow of the game

In the beginning, with an interest in growing my games, I was lax in enforcing the speed of play. We have achieved that growth with many of those newer players being serious players interested in attending tournaments and other nearby games where strict time limits are imposed. Therefore our games must adhere to the same ACBL time limits.

By trying to be “fair” to players with lax time enforcement, I have become unfair to the majority of the players. The ACBL guidelines give 7 minutes to play a board. Therefore I must begin to apply penalties for slow play. If you are experiencing slow play at any table, speak up and if you are being slow, speed up. We all know if we are guilty. Do not start a hand with less than 5 minutes left in the round or if I have announced not to start another hand.

These penalties will be applied; no arguments:
1. Any board started 5 minutes before the end of the round will be taken away. If one of the pairs has caused the delay with slow play and/or bidding, they will receive an A- on the board but if no one pair is to blame, the board will be scored NP. Late plays will only be allowed if there is more than 30 minutes before the session ends and both pairs wish to play.
2. If one pair is chronically guilty of slow play, often causing delay, 1 point will be deducted from their total score at the most recent slow game.

Please take responsibility for your own play to keep a pleasant game atmosphere.
