SALISBURY – The city of Salisbury’s budget and performance management department has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation award for the 2017-18 budget.
The only national awards program in government budgeting comes from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
Salisbury was one jurisdiction out of 1,177 across the United States and Canada to receive the award.
The Distinguished Budget Presentation award reflects the commitment of a governing body and staff to meet the highest principles of government budgeting. To receive the budget award, the government must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.
These guidelines are designed to assess how well the budget serves as:
• A policy document.
• A financial plan.
• An operations guide.
• A communications device.
Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
“The city of Salisbury is pleased to receive a prestigious recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association,” said City Manager Lane Bailey. “I’m proud of the great job Finance Director Shannon Moore and her staff have done with our budget. This award highlights the city’s efforts in meeting all government fiscal requirements, while providing transparent and valuable information to our citizens.”
