From staff and wire reports

Carson’s Kary Hales and Katie Jewell; West Rowan’s Parker Greene,  and South Rowan’s Summer McKeon and Brooke Lowery were named All-State by the NC Softball Coaches Association.

Hales, Jewell and Greene made the 3A team, while McKeon and Lowery made the 2A squad.

Davie’s Anna Devereaux, Sierra Ferguson and Sydney Wyatt made 4A All-State.

College tennis

GREENSBORO — N.C. State tennis player  Michael Ogden (Salisbury) was named to the All-ACC Academic team, along with teammate  Alexis  Galarneau.

Galarneau and Ogden paired up in doubles for the majority of the 2017-18 season, posting a 14-7 record as a duo. In the fall, they reached the doubles final of the ITA Carolina Regional and competed in the main draws of both the ITA All-American Championships and the ITA Fall National Championships.

The pair ended the season ranked No. 67 in the final Oracle/ITA doubles rankings.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) during the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative GPA during their academic career.

Wood bat leagues

Jackson Raper (Catawba) is batting .339 with 11 RBIs for the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England.

Prep basketball

Marcus White has been named as the varsity girls head basketball coach at North Hills Christian.

Carson’s girls won varsity and junior varsity girls basketball championships at Catawba’s team camp.

Legion baseball

T.J. Corlett pitched a five-hitter as Kernerville beat Eastern Randolph, 7-0, in a Northern Division game on Wednesday.

Rowan 8U softball

In pool play, the Rowan  Little League 8U softball team lost to East Surry, 16-13, but won against South Little League, 16-10, and Davie Little League, 18-16.

Rowan is the No. 2  seed in the single-elimination tournament and beat Davie 15-7.

Rowan plays East Surry in the District 2 championship tonight at 7 p.m. at Davie.

Team members are Addison Barrier, Ava Baxter, Peyton Cheek, Kaylee Connor, Chelsee Coughenour,  Abigail Drechsler, Bently Hager, Makynzie Melchor, Hayden Myers, Reese Poole and  Kierra Shulenburger.

Donnell Poole coaches the team. Assistants are Jeff Bernhardt, Josh Melchor, Natalie Poole and Andrew Barrier.

Intimidators

KANNAPOLIS — Parker Rigler allowed just five hits over seven innings, leading the Kannapolis Intimidators over the Lexington Legends in a 4-1 win on Wednesday.

Drew Harrington got Matt Morales to hit into a forceout with runners on first and second to end the game for his first save of the season.

After four scoreless innings, Lexington got on the board in the top of the fifth when Marten Gasparini hit an RBI single, scoring Cristian Perez.

The Intimidators took the lead for good with four runs in the sixth inning. Michael Hickman hit a two-run double and then scored on a two-run single by Tyler Frost en route to the three-run lead.

Andres Sotillet (5-5) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and six hits while striking out five in the South Atlantic League game.
