MIAMI ó A pedestrian wasn’t in a crosswalk when Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth hit and killed him with his Bentley, according to a report released Tuesday by police in Miami Beach.
According to the report, Stallworth told officers he flashed his lights to try to warn 59-year-old Mario Reyes, a construction crane operator who was rushing to catch a bus after getting off work around 7:15 a.m. March 14.
Police said Stallworth was driving about 50 mph in a 40 mph zone. They are investigating whether alcohol played a role in the accident. No charges have been filed against Stallworth pending the outcome of blood tests.
A police diagram shows that Reyes was hit in the far left lane of the six-lane MacArthur Causeway ó not in a nearby crosswalk. Stallworth stopped a few feet away.

NEW YORK ó Dick Enberg could only find two words to express his pleasure at learning he will be honored May 6 with the second Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports Broadcasting: “Oh, My.”
Enberg, began his broadcast career in Los Angeles in 1965.

AUSTIN, Texas ó Lance Armstrong says racing in the Giro d’Italia in May is still “very doable” even though his broken collarbone is a bit more serious than first thought. He says new tests show “multiple pieces” of broken bone. Armstrong will have surgery today in Austin, and a metal plate will be inserted to stabilize his collarbone.
TENNIS
WASHINGTON ó Former No. 1-ranked tennis player Kim Clijsters asked the U.S. Open about receiving a wild card for this year’s tournament as part of her comeback plans.
The 25-year-old Clijsters, who retired in 2007 and gave birth to a child last year, will hold a news conference Thursday in Belgium to announce her 2009 plans.

AUBURN, Ala. ó Curtis Jerrells grabbed a key rebound then made 1-of-2 free throws with 6.9 seconds left, helping Baylor to advance to the semifinals of the NIT with a 74-72 win Tuesday night.
Kevin Rogers added 19 points and nine rebounds to help the Bears (23-14) extend their improbable run after finishing ninth in the Big 12 Conference and going 59 years without a postseason win.
The Tigers (24-12), who matched the second-best win total in program history, had two chances in the final seconds to at least tie it.
Trailing 73-72, Auburn forced a turnover on the inbound pass with 16 seconds left. DeWayne Reed attempted a leaner and was fouled, but missed both free throws. Rasheem Barrett’s 3-point try bounced off the left side of the rim at the buzzer.
Baylor will play the St. Mary’s-San Diego State winner next Tuesday in New York, their first game at Madison Square Garden since the 1950 NCAA Final Four.
KOMIVES DIES
TOLEDO, Ohio ó Howard “Butch” Komives (KOH’-myvz) died Sunday in Toledo after battling health problems for the last decade. He was 67.
During his senior year, he led the nation in scoring with just under 37 points a game. Komives played in the NBA with the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Buffalo Braves and Kansas City Kings.
